Please help with this error handling:

Hi!

I'm using webservice to display weather on my webpage.
Sometimes this XML webservice times out (or just takes too long) and my
webpage does not load (Request timed out)
Regular error handling doesn't help here.

I wonder what needs to be done to avoid this problems. I don't ming remove
blocks of page if service fails, but I want rest displayed !

TIA

the timeout on you page has to be longer than the timeout on the webrequest.

Bruce,

Thanks, I understand this.

Actually, I'm more interested in reducing timeout of webrequest and display
error to user then making user wait forever.
Some of this webservices sometime hangs for good (free stuff).

How do I set timeout for web service?

When creating a new class, is it encouraged to always include error handling routines within your LET and GET procedures? It's seems that most text books never seem to include much about error handling within classes. Just hoping to hear some programmer's thoughts on error handling.

I have quite often (as have probably many of you) come across HTML forms with irritating bits of Javascript attached. The last straw on this particular camel's back was a large form I was asked to complete in connection with attendance at a seminar. After spending more than 15 minutes on it, I clicked on the submit button - and nothing happened. Looking round the pages on Javascript form validation that Google produced for me (well,...

Hello, I have an HTML page that I am trying to import 2 .js file (I created) into. These files are: row_functions.js and data_check_functions.js. Whenever I bring the contents of the files into this HTML file, all is OK but whenever the functions are separated (as it is now), when I run the page, I get the following error: Line 73, object expected.

Greetings, Having a major problem here. running version 8.2 on win2003 server. The problem I am having is backing up a database seems to get to the last part of the backup and then fails. This brings the whole instance down and it has to be restarted. In addition the job seems to be stuck in the TOOLSDB as if I try to delete the backup job I get "The task is currently running". So I went to the command line and tried "db2 backup database...

Hi, I have error handling in place throughout my application. I also start the application wrapped in error handling code to catch any unexpected exceptions (i.e. exceptions that occur where I haven't placed error handling code). When I run my app from the IDE, the unhandled errors are caught by the error handling code in my Sub Main routine and the error details are logged to a text file and optionally e-mailed to me for follow-up.

Hi, I've been thinking about Python vs. Lisp. I've been learning Python the past few months and like it very much. A few years ago I had an AI class where we had to use Lisp, and I absolutely hated it, having learned C++ a few years prior. They didn't teach Lisp at all and instead expected us to learn on our own. I wasn't aware I had to uproot my thought process to "get" it and wound up feeling like a moron. In learning Python I've...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
