I have some code that I am trying to optimize for speed...
trying to squeeze every last CPU cycle out... I remembered an old trick
where dividing & multiplying can be sped up by using bitshifts and addition
/ subtraction instead (doing this saved me about 11% time on my 2.26ghz P4).
Really easy with powers of two. I implemented this last night when I was
tired, and this morning, I realize it was not exactly right (values were
slightly...

Dim X as int32
Dim Y as int64
X = Y / 1024
gives me the error:
"Operator is not valid for type 'UInt64' and type 'Integer'."
I'm new to VB.NET and this is one of the reasons why I've resisted so
long. I've tried Dimming X as Int64 and integer. What do I have to

I have a long page that contains few separate information blocks. When
I print the page by means of window.print(), the content is
automatically divided by pages.
I look through and find I can do it if I load blocks in separate
frames. But there is a new problem. There are ten or more blocks. When
I load the content it is unreadable.
- If frameset fits to the screen, then the result looks like many
horizontal stripes with scrolling. The...

I have:
int a = 1;
int b = 2;
double c = a/b;
Is it somehow possible to divide these two integers and get the result
as a double 0.5? Or do they both have to be declared as doubles?

Do you have an example of an implementation where
sizeof(short int) does not divide sizeof(int) or
sizeof(int) does not divide sizeof(long int) or
sizeof(long int) does not divide sizeof(long long int) ?
Same question for the corresponding unsigned types.

Hi,
If I have three 64 bit integers and I want to do this operation on them:
x*y/z
Lets say that what we are multiplying by (y) is offset by what we are
dividing by (z) so that the final answer will fit in a 64-bit integer.
Let me simplify it by using unsigned chars (8 bits):

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
