how to parse name value pairs in querystring

37 New Member
Hi,

Does anybody know how to parse the name value pairs in a querystring contained in a variable with asp?

for those of you who might be confused, what i am trying to do is basically I have a recordset paging script generated for a search page. I want to read all the search criteria in the querystring of this paging script into one variable and then parse it at the other end.

The idea behind this is to avoid displaying the entire querystring in the url bar as the user navigates from one page to another. Secondly it will prevent such a large query string from being truncated since the GET method employed in querystring can only post a limited amount of data.

Any suggested will be appreciated

use a delimiter

such as a character that isn't used often | or ` or ² if you want it to be that

then split it by those.
blah.asp?qs=cli nt|whoever
var qs = request("qs")
qs = split(qs, "|")
'qs(0) = clint
'qs(1) = whoever
for each item in qs
response.write item
next

understand?

If, for example, I retrieve a connectionstring from a config file using something like: Value = ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings; This will return a string that is semi-colon delimited. If I want, say, to retrieve the password from this string will I need to explicity parse it?

Hi everybody Need your help. I have a DB-extracted list of say 5 items per page, which have links on each one that takes you to more detailed info on the 'clicked' particular item. When you are taken to the more detail page I have a link to take you back to the list. This all works fine and is standard stuff. My problem is that the user wants the go back link on the detail page to

I have created a web page that receives names and values from a URL string of another page e.g. http://hostname/resolve?sublibrary=JMLibrary&collection=Elton&shelfmark=LM 36TY ... and decodes the names/values from the ? onwards, doing all the seperation of the ampersands. Here is the "decoder" that I found at http://www.tek-tips.com/faqs.cfm?fid=5442

Is there an object in the .NET framework that has methods for working with Name=Value pairs such as those in a connection string? What I am looking for is something similar to an ArrayList but with an IndexOfName method that will find the first occurance of the value on the left of the = sign and that also has a way to change the Value on the right side. -- Bill

Hi. I am trying to find out if it is possible to open a pdf file from within PHP, and parse its contents in order to extract all form fieldnames that might have been previously setup within the pdf itself. I want to find this out so that I can then generate a HTML form with all required questions, which when submitted, will generate a fdf / xfdf file, using the techniques from the following tutorial

I have a long string (MyString) with several token/value combinations. Here's an example... NAME: JOHN ADDRESS: 123 MAIN ST COUNTY: SOMEWHERE PHONE: 333-222-5151 x542 EMAIL: SOME@SOME.COM How can I easily parse out a few of these tokens? For example, if I want to get the COUNTY, or PHONE? I would think that the split function would work, but this doesn't seem to

Let's suppose I have some nodes in an XML file, with an URL attribute: <node url="mypage.php?name1=value1&foo=bar&foo2=bar2&name2=value0" /> <node url="myotherpage.php?name4=value4&foo=bar3&foo2=bar5&name2=value8" /> and so on. Let's suppose I want to retrieve this @url parameter, BUT ONLY with the values, in querystring, associated with "foo" and "foo2" (thus discarding name1, name2, name4 and every other different ones).

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers.
