IIS hangs ASP - tried IISState - help

rjb
Hi there

I've a server which hosts couple of hundreds sites. From time to time I
can't
access some of the websites, all of them are ASP. HTML ones are fine.

I've tried to use iisstate, but I can't seen any errors in the log, not even
a warning.
Also, there is nothing in the Event Viewer. The server is 2003 standard.

If I will restart IIS service, all is back to normal.

I know this doesn't say much, but do you have any ideas where should I go
from here?

Thanks,
rjb

It sounds like you have at least one site who has a threading issue,
possibly something blocking that causes it to fail

There's also a possiblity the server is just overloaded, but most likely
something is blocking.

You need to bring up perfmon and add asp currently executing and asp threads
pooled - you'll most likely find pooled threads when this happens.

By threading / blocking, take for example you fetch a url from another site
and that other site is down / slow - That timeout may be 30 seconds - Now
all the sudden it takes 30 seconds for your asp page to finish, even if it
ONLY calls the component and outputs the results. However after a few start
executing you are blocked and other asp requests queue.

There's various tuning you can do, but you probably need to find the problem
instead of work around it.

Im running a small server that seems to work fine outside the IDE as an exe, but within the IDE, when I run the program for the first time, i can start/stop the host many times. But I end the program within the IDE, and start it back up, when I click on the Host button, the entire IDE hangs. I created a quick test program to try and figure out where the problem was.. Basically i created a form and put a command button, and a mswinsock

I'm trying to debug an application that causes ASP to stop responding while the other IIS services continue to run and the server continues to serve static HTML pages. I've captured a set of log files using the IISState utility but I'm not sure what I should be looking for. Would you be able to point me to some resources to help me to learn how to interpret these files?

I have seen in other messages mention of a known Jet engine bug in ws2003. What is this, What does it do and how can I clearit? I any suggestions?

I had previously explained this problem in a different thread, but now that I have an IISState log, I figured I'd re-start the thred. My situation and the log are following... I have a very odd situation here. I have an administration page, where based on a users permissions, a recordset is called from the SQL server which has a list of paths to "Module Menus". Each of these menus are then placed into the page by calling...

Hello, Running a Win2k box. Every few hours, IIS decides to stop serving asp pages. The machine has multiple hosts on it and this occurs with ALL asp pages. Running IISrecycle resolves the issue. Any ideas? Thanks

I apologize in advance for cross-posting, but I have noted that others have experienced similar issues and was hoping that someone could help. Briefly, I am working on an ASP.NET content management application written in C#. running on .NET Framework 1.1/W2K/IIS5. The application uses the Microsoft WebService Behavior to generate a tree of "folders" in a frame on the left hand side. The user can click on a "folder", and the contents...

hello, if i start a program (an exe-file) with Process.Start(...) I don't have the required permissions that the programm needs (i could start the programm but the program needs special rights). So I added the StartInfo.UserName and Password to the Process. Now the program starts, but it hangs... nothing happens. In the task-manager the process is created, but it doesn't do anything - no cpu-load and no change of memory-usage. What...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
