"To help protect your security, "

What is "active content"? My ASP page just returns HTML....
I have a page with an .htm extension that has a form whose action
is an ASP page which generates a report after updating a database
with the form data.

Under Windowx XP SP2 the IE6 "Informatio n Bar" has the message:

"To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this
file from showing active content that could access your computer."
I found the fix (at the link below) that says to (under IE6) go to
Tools + Internet Options + Advanced then scroll down to Security
and check "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer"

Microsoft states the following:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../sp2brows.mspx
#EDAA

Active Content Blocked -- Detailed description

When active content is blocked from running in the
Local Machine zone, the Information Bar will appear.

The Information Bar includes descriptive text that explains why
the action was taken and provides a context sensitive menu that
you can use to respond to the notification. The following table
identifies the text that will appear in the Information Bar and the
actions that you can select from the menu.

What's the Risk?

Why is this change important? What threats does it help mitigate?

In Windows XP SP2, Internet Explorer sometimes blocks active
content which may be necessary to complete certain tasks.
This new user interface element ensures that there is a notification
that allows people to complete these tasks on Web pages they trust.

What works differently?

The Local Machine zone mitigation will now use the new Information Bar.

For more information, see "Internet Explorer Local Machine Zone Lockdown,"
later in this document.

We're from MicroSoft, and we're here to help.....
It looks like you're writing a letter. How may we screw it up for you?

Switch to FireFox, and get the better protection without the nuisance.

PS - I develop software using MS products & technologies, which I love. The
current IE, however, is a lumbering dinosaur facing imminent extinction.

Having adopted someone else's PHP cope and completing a crash course in the language I came across a (probably common) problem with the current code. On a registration form, whenever users names have an apostrophe in them it causes problems as they do not get added to the DB correctly for reasons that immediately become apparent. Before implementing my own workaround I noticed the functions. addslashes, stripslashes and directive...

Hello, I need to convert a string to a number, but the string can contain +,-,* and / as well as parenthesis. For example, if I have the string "30/(6+9)" I would like a function that returned the number 2. I actually wrote a java function that did this a couple of years ago, in school, as an excersise in "binary trees". I lost it, and most of my programming knowledge, but I figured perhaps there is a way to do this easily in python? It...

I have a C# method that reads Binary data (BLOB type) from a database and returns the data an array of bytes (i.e byte outbyte = new byte;). The BLOB column is saved into the database by a C program (UNIX) as an array of "struct point" where struct point //C structure { int Time; //32 bits

I am writing a Windows forms VB.Net/MS SQL application via VS 2003 that utilizes Crystal Reports. I want to be able to dynamically set the report data source at run time. I'm trying to change the the reports "integrated security" from TRUE to FALSE via the "Set Location" dialog in the report designer with no success. It is not intuitive (at least not to me.) I get the following error:

I have over 10 years strong experience coding in VBA, developing complex multi-user applications in MS Access (all versions), have worked with security, replication, and whole bunch of other aspects of desktop development. I've even developed web apps interfacing with both Access and SQL Server. I've done some with PHP, but my goal is to work with MS products more now. The exception to that would be I like working with Crystal reports. ...

Upfront disclaimer - I am a relative newbie, just starting out learning about PHP, mostly by researching, installing and playing with different scripts. I am looking for a host that will provide the right environment for this - running a wide variety of PHP applications. I realise that security is also important, but for now flexibility is more important to me. Note that I'm **not** looking for people to recommend hosting companies, I...

Hi, Can someone please tell me the strategy(ies) used by Java (the Security Manager or whatever) to determine if a given IP address conforms to the definition of the codebase from which an applet was retrieved? For example, if an Applet was loaded from mycluster.mydomain.com, and "mycluster" was a cluster alias that was using DNS load-balancing (or round-robin or a.n.other distribution technique) to distribute client connections among...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
