Did MSFT pull a fast one? Partly OT

I stated to someone in a different post, perhaps different NG, that since I
have 3rd party cookies blocked in IE and after a recent windows security
update, ads with 3rd party cookies do not load the page.

This is the link I went to:
http://redmondmag.com/columns/articl...itorialsID=141

The page cannot be found
The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name
changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please try the following:

a.. If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that
it is spelled correctly.

b.. Open the ad.doubleclick. net home page, and then look for links
to the information you want.
c.. Click the Back button to try another link.
HTTP 404 - File not found

Now I don't even get the ad at all! I'm overwhelmed and my processor
is as happy as a pig on a rainy day.
I've found other pages breaking, like webopedia, but not sure if it is
related. Can anyone confirm this? I'm wondering if anything else is being
disabled/ignored as if someone were to block first party cookies, session
cookies, etc. or is it even tied to cookies?

I'm seeing this on too many web sites but it also happens with Firefox. Now
I don't know what to think.
I'll buy the insanity possibility or a vast right-wing conspiracy but surely
I'm not the only one experiencing this.
I hope it's too much to hope that all the ad service companies are down.

Actually, I see this all the time, but that's because my hosts file does
not allow going to pages like that. I really like that a lot, have had no
problems with nasty cookies, big ad images, etc.

I use Spybot Search and Destroy, Spyware Blaster, Pegasus Mail, Xnews, and
I use the hosts file recommended at
<http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm>. I also block third party
cookies. I also edited my 404 page and mine says "Doh! The website cannot
be found". I haven't had a virus or spyware issue in over a year.

Thanks for responding and thanks for the link...

It must have been the SpySweeper update that added the slew of entries in my
hosts file. That came at about the same time. I had been cleaning systems
for others quite a bit lately but I never get spyware. I don't accept 3rd
party cookies, prompt for 1st party, keep my defenses updated and accept
only plain text email. I personally have only been infected once in 25
years. Stoned virus on a floppy at a law firm in the early 90s. Typical.

Ok, I take back all the praise for MSFT. I was getting excited IE was
getting some attention. I should have known better.

I'm currently working with a 10 million plus row database with the data residing on a Unix box with Cache 5.0. The problems is that it can take five days to pull one table from Cache to SQL 2000 using the ODBC connection provided by Cache in a SQL 2000 DTS package. I think the real problem is converting the data from the post relational format (Cache) to a relational format (SQL 2000)??? Does anyone have any ideas / suggestions on how to...

Here's a comparison chart of MSFT vs NASDAQ. An investment in MSFT produces almost no returns, while NASDAQ has been soaring during the recovery. Bottom Line: MSFT has not recovered and in fact, faces a long steady decline in value. FUD: Recently the new FUD line from M$ Organs such as the Motley Fool is to call a stock 'overvalued'. Hi, As I been programming in C I have discovered more and more tools that really helps to speed up the development process when writing programs. Examples of such tools are cscope, cbrowser, tags, etc. There are ofcourse many different levels of programmers, and the beginners might only use emacs or vi to write their code. However, since there are such great tools out there to help the programmer, I am wondering which tools are...

What I want to do is have 2 pull down lists, for example a state pull down list and a city pull down list. What I would like to have done is when you select a state from the state pull down list then the city pull down list will populate with all the cities from that selected state. I know that is a lot of data but that is just an example. Or something like when you are looking up cars online they have a make pull down list and a model...

Hello, I have a pretty large table (22,000 rows, 40 columns) that I need to return to either a webpage (maybe a datagrid or just a table) or just spit out directly to Excel. This table is coming from an Oracle database. The code we are using now uses the Enterprise Library and using the ExecuteDataSet method. I tried the ExecuteReader, but that didn't seem any faster. When I use the ExecuteReader my assumption is that I still need to...

I'm looking for some library to parse XML code much faster than the libs built into Python 2.4 (I'm stuck with 2.4 for quite a while) and I also need XML Schema validation, and would appreciate support for e.g. XPath and XInclude. I also want an API which is more Pythonic than e.g. a thin wrapper over a C or C++ API. It should be available on at least Linux, Solaris and AIX.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
