running tomcat on vista

15 New Member
I've installed (from the zip file) tomcat 6.0.14 on my pc, but I can't get my webapp to run. It is a very simple HTML form and java servlet and it is on the webapps directory of tomcat, but it won't run. it won't even call up the tomcat home page with "localhost:8080 ' , but it does say "It Works!" though. I read that turning off user control and restarting might help, but I don't trust it.

Any ideas?

Hi, I just installed tomcat (unzipped) to C:\ on vista machine today. It worked right off the bat. I just did the following:
1. unzipped tomcat to C:\
2. located where jre was on machine added JRE_HOME to Envrionment variables.
3. started up the batch program startup.bat. A console window appeared listing messages on the tomcat startup.

the http://localhost:8080 worked fine.

The file "RUNNING" has some troubleshooting tips that may prove useful.

I've just installed Visual Web developer 2008 and tried to run my first ASP.net web site. When I run it on my Vista Business PC I got an error "Page can not be displayed". What should I check to get an ASP.Net application running. I'm familiar with classic ASP programming not with ASP.Net. Classic ASP applications are running fine on the same PC. -- Kind regards, Hans

I am trying to install Apache 2.2 and Tomcat 5.5 on a Vista system. I just downloaded the install files from Apache and did the standard install procedure. I can see "It Works" when I enter http://localhost but I do not get anything when I enter http://localhost:8080. Also, Tomcat does not stay in "Start" mode--I can start it in the "Services" window but as soon as I close the Services window it stops. If you can help me please e-mail me at...

On reflection, you could possibly make the app a self extracting zip file which extracts the EXE and a settings file and then starts the app, then when you app closes, it can repack the settings file and itself into the exe. You would probably want a tool for this bit which could be in the zip too. So the app isnt single exe when running but when not running, it is. Just an idea for you to think about. Another option would possibly be to...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
