why can't I import a form?

16 New Member
I am currently using Access 2003.
while I try to import a form from another existing access database via File>Get External Data, it simply took no action. why? possibly because the database which is imported from, is password-protected? but it seems ok to import tables.

I suspect you're trying to import from an .mde database reather than an .mdb. Importing of tables/queries are allowed, but not objects that contain code, such as forms, reports and modules.

is there any chance that I can convert the type of the database and get form inported... the design of the form took me very long to complete. dont want to do it all over again. how?

No, you can't "convert" an .mde back to a .mdb, but you should still have .mdb version on you PC, assuming you didn't delete it after making the .mde version. Use Windows Find function, entering YourDatabaseName.* to search for the .mdb file.

It does appear (due to tables being importable) that this is an MDE issue rather than a password issue. If that is true, then the way to get the design of the form is from the original MDB file that the MDE was created from. I'm afraid that losing the original MDB after creating the MDE is a very bad idea as you are then in a position where no further development can take place.

What about forms /rpts in which I have not placed any code?
Do they nevertheless CONTAIN code (for purposes discussed here) ?

Forms or reports without any code basically do nothing! If you've placed a single button on a form Access has added code to the form. A report has to have code behind it, or it is nothing!
