Open a PDF File from a form button

1 New Member
Hi, I am finding it difficult to Open a specific PDF file from a form button, due to the file path being on a global network \\europe.XXXX.com\etc\etc\MASTER DOC.pdf (it is not assigned a particular Drive letter)

example
Dim stAppName As String

stAppName = "europe.XXXX.com\etc\etc\MASTER DOC.pdf"
Call Shell(stAppName, 1)

Exit_Command1_Click:
Exit Sub

The function needs to be used by other users on the LAN and I cannot get them all to map a specific drive.

Short cuts with this address work fine and can be emailed to all users so why won't access open it
Any ideas

I would think that you have to include the slashes in the string name as in:

stAppName = "\\europe.XXXX.com\etc\etc\MASTER DOC.pdf"

Access will follow windows path settings to find "applications" - it starts with the current directory then the root (on the computer where it is running) then checks the windows path for other directories to check - it has no way to know (on its own) that the application resides somewhere out on the internet.
