You can use Animated GIFs in Access, but this requires the use of an ActiveX Control. If you are interested on how to do this, let me know, and I'll post detailed instructions.

It sounds like it may be of general interest anyway ADezii. Not a bad thread to have to refer back to I would say :-)

The use of an Animated GIF in a Splash Screen can make your finished Product very appealing and professional looking. I'll outline the process in detail below.
  1. The Attachment to this Post contains the actual ActiveX Control (Gif89.dll) that you will use for this process.
  2. Copy Gif89.dll to your C:\Windows\Syst em Folder.
  3. Register the ActiveX Control with Windows by clicking the Start Button ==> Run, then typing:
    Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
    1. C:\Windows\System\Regsvr32.exe C:\Windows\System\Gif89.dll
  4. Open your Splash Form in Access in Design View:
    1. Choose Insert from the Access Main Menu.
    2. Choose ActiveX Control, then Gif89 Class.
    3. This will place a GIF Object on your Form.
    4. The last Property of the Control is called 'File Name'. Set the complete Path to the GIF File you wish to use.
    5. There is also a Property that allows you to either Link or Embed the GIF File, weigh each option and make your decision.
  5. You can use almost any Animated GIF that you wish, many of which are free on the Internet, good luck.
P.S. - With many good things in life, there is usually a down side, and so it is with Animated GIFs. If you wish this Animation on work on different machines, you must go through this process for each and every machine. The results, however, may be worth the effort - you decide.

Is step 4 necessary on all the computers? Or just steps 1-3? Because those steps can be automated. It's probably possible to automate step 4 even.

@Rabbit - Thanks for picking up on my oversight. I would think that your Assumption is correct.

I can't register ActiveX control this error occur: can't find Regsvr32

I made an alternative example for you of how to create an animation. With my example you do not need to use the Regsvr32 method. There is a downside to using the Regsv32 because you will have to Register the Active X control on every computer to make it work. Instead you can call the .gif and displays it in the open form.

The following example is one way you could create a loading screen.

To view the example extract the two files and then create a New Folder to put them in, then open the DB file and then open the form and you will see the animation running.

Enjoy :D

Hi: When Access opens, the user gets a glimpse of table lists and other ugliness before the startup screen appears (set in the startup process). Is there some way that i can avoid this and even maybe have some sort of image or form that appears. The key issue is when a user opens the applications, I don't want them to see the "engine", just the user end of the application. Regards

Dear Group, I am attempting to write a "splash" and "status" Form using a second thread. I wish to also use the same Form after startup as well if I do something CPU intensive. I have developed a multi-threaded application however the very first

I would like to add text to an image. I have tried to use DrawString and it works on some images but on others it is very very small. I am pretty sure it has something to do with the size of the image but I have had varying results on multiple images. Is there anyway to make the text a fixed size on the image. Similar to putting a date on a photograph.

Searching some time now for documents on this but still did not find anything about it: Is it possible to replace the entry screen of MS Office Access 2007 - that one presenting that default 'templates' (with that big graphic buttons) - with some sort of own HTML-Page? I could imagine, that somehow it is possible to change this construction (hopefully not hardcoded in MS-Acc07), like it is possible to edit the 'Fluent Ribbon'? If so...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
