I realize that this question might pop up from time to time, but I
haven't seen it a while and things might of changed, so -
Right now (July 2004) how does mysql stand up in comparison to oracle?
We are seriously considering migrating our multi-processor oracle
system to mysql to save on licensing costs, and would need several
features that mysql may or may not have:

Hello,
I'm trying to decide if the following situation would be workable:
Generate an MS Access Front End (which will run localy on client computers),
which will link to a DBMS (SQL server or Oracle). As far as I know there
will be approx. 30 till 40 users max working on the database. I think
approx. 25 users will actually enter data (others will be mostly reporting
and viewing).
I don't really know the network capacity.

I am trying to convince a client that dotNet is preferable to an Access
project (ADP/ADE).
This client currently has a large, pure Access MDB solution with 30+ users,
which needs to be upgraded.
I believe a dotNet solution is better, but I'm trying to be as convincing as
possible -- and maybe I'm wrong!
I would appreciate any input or references which could help me.

I'm fairly new to Access (I've worked with Oracle and MySQL in the
past). I was asked to build an application for a small office and told
that I had to use Access 2002. I was VERY uncomfortable with this, but
went ahead anyway. So two weeks ago we rolled out the new system and
I'm still wondering how robust Access is......I know it's not in the
same league as Oracle, but at the same time this isn't a real big
application. But I can't...

Hi everybody:
This will be not easy to explain as my mother language is not english,
so my apologies in advance if it sounds confusing.
We have a database access 97 wich controls time of people in their job
in order to finally know how many money costs us to run some projects.
People always estimates the time when reporting and we do have the
impression they really underestimate the time.

I am planning on writing a stock and accounts program for the family
business, I understand this is likely to take close to 2 years to
accomplish. The stock is likely to run into over a thousand items and
the accounting side will be used for hopefully many years so the
entries are likely to be vast.
The delema is what is best to use ase the DB engine, Access I have as

I need to convert a 17mb access 2000 db to Oracle and house it in a
Citrix farm. The issue: we have never converted an Access Db to Oracle
but can probably use Oracle's Workbench to assist with this. Also - the
citrix folks do not want us to keep the FE in Access as the queries and
other activities consume a lot of power. The users will be in 3
different offices across the globe all accessing the 1 Oracle DB in
Citrix.
