hi list,
since a couple of weeks we face a special "security" problem. neraly
every ms-access database that is located on our net-drives cannot be
opened.
when clicking the document's icon, first, the warning message arises
"open document - security message" - "Really open *.mdb ....?",
second, when clicking "start" ms-access starts, but the mdb-file
cannot be opened. message: "ms-access could not open the file ... The
file is located outside the intranet or on a website that is
considered to be insecure. ms-access therefore will not open the
document because of possible security problems" (translation from the
german dialogs - somediffeences to the original english dailog can be
assumed)
when copying the file to a local hard disk, it works again. butthat's
not the idea of an intra-enterprise database, is it?
any ideas how to come over that ????
thanx in advance
norbert
ps. some of these mdb-files are replicated ...

In my "work" situation, all workstations have the frontend on their
machines and all is fine. The problem arises when I am on my home machine
and receive an '.mdb' file in my email or download from the internet
(various sample db's from Access sites) and then try to open it--that's when
I get the same annoying message:
"Microsoft Access cannot open this file.
This file is located outside your intranet or on an untrusted site.
Microsoft Access will not open this file due to potential security problems.
To open the file, copy it to your machine or an accessible network
location."
I can't quite tell if this is an Internet 'thing' or an Access 'thing', but
I have tried "copying the various db's to my "machine or to an accessible
network location" which is an exercise in futility-it doesn't work. I tried
going into IE6's security tab, but can find a solution there.
Does anyone have some ideas to help "novak" and me.
thx...

Right-click the file after copying it your disk and look for the "unblock"
button on the property sheet.

I have a .Net 1.1 application which is downloaded into an aspx page. It is a
dll which inherits from System.Windows.Forms.UserControl. It works fine on a
PC with only the 1.1 Framework. However, the control will not load on a PC
with the 2.0 Framework installed. I know that IE will use the newest
framework so I assume it is a security issue.
At the assembly level I apply the following attributes;

In the routine I found it was using the TripleDESCryptoServiceProvider (and

I think this question has been asked number of times. However, I am
looking for some specific information. Perhaps some of you can help
close the gap. Or perhaps you can point me towards right direction.
Perhaps this group can help me fill in ms-sqlserver related following
questions.
1. Do this database have data Clustering capabilities?
1a. If yes, what mechanism is used such as shared disk, share nothing,
etc.

Hello,
at our company we have two different web development platforms, ASP.NET and
ColdFusion.
We are trying to merge security between the platforms to provide a security
blanket, so-to-speak, around all our apps.
We are trying to come up with the same encryption for a simple string with a
simple Key using AES encryption. Since AES uses Rijndael I'm using that
algorithm.
I admit my understanding of this is very limited but here's what we...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
