Synchronizing IDs accross multiple tables

1 New Member
I have a similar problem. I have a form displaying some primary information, this form has six command buttons, each designed to open a form from a different table. I want to associate these records with the form displaying the primary information. Relationships are as follows; Primary Information ID is set to all other tables ID. On my first attempt, if I did not enter data to one of the other tables opened by the command button, an auto ID was not created - messing up the synch of the records.

My question is this: To keep everything synched, when the form is opened can I force the creation of a record to all the other tables this form openes to keep the ID's synched?

These records must eventualy be created, but the user may bail out before each form is opened.

??? Help ???

Hi, you had posted your question under an older thread. This is discouraged as it can clutter up the original poster's feedback and will limit the feedback you yourself receive. I have taken the liberty of splitting your post into it's own thread and assigning an appropriate thread title for you.

You can do this but it would take a fair amount of code.
It may be possible to do it without the extra code if using sub-forms (I'll let someone who knows them better discuss that) but I would :
  1. Open the related form with a filter which shows which value you want (which defines the relationship to the master table).
  2. Have a control in the opened form (can be hidden if you like) which holds that value.
  3. Make sure the Control.Default Value is set to the value found in the filter when the form is opened.
This will ensure that only matching entries are shown AND that all new entries will be matching.

BTW. Nice work JKing. You were absolutely right to "take the liberty" of splitting this thread out. Good job.

Hi Unfortunately, I am limited to using tables for part of my current project. I have a form that spans across a number of TR and TD in the shape of checkboxes. Doctype is XHTML 1.0 Transitional, Encoding is utf-8 Is there anything wrong? Should I try something else? What in that case?

We have a number of tables in a CRM that is written in MS access that I need to be able to provide a web interface to. I can export the tables just fine using pgadmin II, but I cant' think of a clean way to import them from postgresql back to access. Synchronizing only needs to happen once a day at the most. I was also thinking of using the MS access forms with access tables that are just odbc links to the postgresql database. Does...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
