Split Control Value when saved + Save changes to record seperate

184 New Member
Hi All wonderfull brains!

Right I have two questions after my last very successfull thread. I have tried looking these up on the net, but no luck.

Scenario 1 is : I have a bound form with bound controls. For one of the controls I look up the values from a table, but the values I then sleect from this combo box, is concatednated, ie. Lastname,Firstn ame,Employee number. Now what I want is that once the user has selected a concatenated name like this and then goes to the following control, when access saves the record when the control loses focus, I want the concatenated name saved deconcatenated into whatever table the data is meant to be saved to. So in other words it is then saved as First name in one table field, last name in seciond table field etc. Now , is this something built into access that can be done without have to sit and handcode it??

Scenario 2 : User enters a record and save it. The user then goes back again later and makes a change to this record, but instead of overwriting the original entry, I want this saved as a amended entry so that I can go back and look at the history of this record. Say for instance a vehicle is allocated to a person for a certain amount of time, then reallocated to someone else later on and then reallocated again even later, I want this as a history, rather than the same record being overwritten. What is the best way to accomplish this?

If I am not allowed to post 2 questions in one thread, then please make me aware and we will only discuss scenario 1 and I will post scenario 2 as a new thread.

Sorry forgot to mention I use Access 2007

Thanks all

I have a script notifies the user to save their changes if they try to close the browser or leave the current page. My problem is that if they click on the "Save Changes" button, the script executes. Obviously, I don't want to remind the user to save their changes when they are trying to save their changes. Here is the original script that I have: window.onbeforeunload = SaveChangesPrompt; function SaveChangesPrompt() {

I'm using Stephen Lebans' RTF2 control in a report, and have discovered what may be a slight bug in it. I have a lot of non-Western language (Chinese) text in my RTF field, and such records get sized strangely using the .RTFHeight property of the control. Specifically, lines of text get cut off the bottom of the control when I use the code provided in the sample report on the lebans.com site. It seems that when there is Chinese text,...

I have a form based on a table. The table has a Yes/No field. Its an A97 table. The form has a button that updates the value in the control from No to Yes for the record currently being edited. It seems the ONLY way I can make the control reflect the Yes value is to save the record. Not that its too much trouble to save it, but there are other fields whose values are going to be modifed during the instance of the current record and I...

Hi, I am strugling with a simple problem which I can't seem to resolve. I have an asp.net page which contains a server-control (flytreeview, which is a kind of a tree to be exact). The tree is being updated by some other process through remoting. When the page loads, I init the tree, and in my browser I can see the initialized tree. The problem is that every time that I receive update to tree from the remote process,

I come up with these questions during the day, do some research, and then look for experienced users' input. 1. In Access, we already know it's pretty much an automatic save if you enter data. How can I prevent that? How can I make an effective way in Access to not commit a change until a 'Save' button is pressed, and also to backout changes using a 'Cancel' button? 2. Let's say I have 15 objects on a form, and they're locked. I have...

Hi All, I have created a multi-user application at work which is working perfectly apart from a small problem which I believe to more a of a user issue (maybe some will set me straight on that one). I have set the 'Default Record Locking' option to 'Edited Record' in the hope that if someone tries to edit a record someone has open, they would not be able to do so. After a little testing, I found this not to be the case. Instead, if 2...

I have a form with several subforms. Users enter the data, then on the parent there is a command button that runs code to generate a .pdf document from a report based on the data they are working with. If a user enters data in a subform, then directly clicks the command button on the parent form, the data in the subform is not included in their document. I THOUGHT that as soon as focus left the subform, any pending changes to the data...

Hello, I have a couple of forms using the code to FIND AS YOU TYPE from Allen Browne (http://allenbrowne.com/AppFindAsUType.html). It worked PERFECTLY until yesterday when i splitted the db into FE/BE. The tables link ok and everything works ok EXCEPT this function. When i open the form it gives me a underlining line (iReturn = ctl.Parent.PageIndex IN THE PARENTNUMBER function in BOLD) and indicating that iReturn=0. I am new with access and...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
