Setting default values for combo box when Form Loads or new record

1 New Member
Hi there, I set the default value of a combo box on a form using the following code in the properties box:
cboContactType. itemdata(0)

and of course nothing happens.
I just want the combo box to be filled with the first value in the list when the form loads and when the user tries to add a new record....can anyone help me?

Thanks

Put this code in the Form Load event.
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. Private Sub Form_Load()
  2. Dim tmpVar As Long
  3.
  4.     If IsNull(Me! cboContactType) Then
  5.         tmpVar =  cboContactType.ItemData(0)
  6.         Me. cboContactType = tmpVar
  7.     End If
  8.
  9. End Sub
  10.

I have a table of Country names & Country codes in alphabetical order. This is a lookup table that a number of other tables use to populate the Country field via a drop down Combo Box on the form(s) for the table(s) in question. The "United States" Country name & the "US" Country code are selected 99% of the time. I would like to have the "United States" & "US" be the default values

Please forgive me for using the wrong term here or there. I'm an old Excel 4 macro guy who didn't convert to VB and I'm tinkering with an Access 2000 DB. I'm sure there is a simple Access 101 answer for this. I have a subform which the user selects an item description from a combo box from a table. I want to obtain the cost for the item (another field in the table) also. I've been able to produce the second data field by rewriting the...

This should be simple but I can't figure it out! I have a form bound to a query. On this form is a combo box that is bound to the same query. When the form loads the combo box is blank. If you click on the dropdown in the combo box the records are there. What I want is that when the form loads and before I click on the dropdown in the combo box I want it show the information for the first record in the query. Hope this makes since.

I have a main form called frmDemo with a subform frmStageTrack_Sub. On the subform is a Combo Box CboTermID. The frmDemo is tied to tblDemo and the frmStageTrack_Sub is tied to tblStageTrack. What I would like to do is when a new record is created in frmDemo I would like to set the CboTermID on the subform to a default value, say 1, without the user having to set focus on the subform and selecting an item from the combo box. Right now...

This should be an easy problem for those with far more knowledge than myself with databinding. I have a VB.NET 2005 windows form with several checkboxes, textboxes and datepickers which are bound to a single dataset (running SQL Server 2000). The form also contains a record navigation bar to move through the records. When the form loads, after assigning the table adapter, I call the AddNew event which calls a function I have to set the...

Hello, I am creating a windows application database. I have a primary table 'Individuals' and a lookup table 'Prefixes.' In the Individuals table, I have a column 'PrefixID' that references values of prefixes from the Prefix table based on the PrefixID in the Prefix table. When I load a windows application form, I can display and update data from the primary table. This includes the prefixID value. If I display a combo box with...

Hi, I'm using PHP 4.4.4 on Apache 2 on Fedora Core 5. PHP was installed using Apache's apxs and the php library was installed to /usr/local/php. However, when I set my "error_reporting" setting to be "E_ALL", notices are still not getting reported. The perms on my file are 664, with owner root and group root. The php.ini file is located at /usr/local/lib/php/php.ini. Any ideas why the setting does not seem to be having an effect? ...

Dear All, First of all I would like to take the time to thank you all for your efforts and time spent at this wonderful forum. I have found it very helpful with numerous examples available for every level of user. I am facing a rather weird behaviour with a combo box on a subform (Continuous form). I have two tables. Order and Order_Details. The master form is based on the Orders tables and the details form (subform) is based on the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
