Hi Guys,
I just complicated my database and I wanted to know what is the best practice for staff to access the APP. I have split my DB in 2. The back end stores the data and the front end is the App. The database will be placed on a network drive. In my DB I have 4 different forms, there are 4 different staff using the DB. Each have different task to do which is why I had to create different forms. The best way I thought for distributing the app is copy the App to the staff desktop and then go into Tools – Startup. I was going to select the form they need and of course uncheck certain boxes to make sure they can’t access anything else.
I can’t think of any other way to distribute the App. If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know. Thank you for all input.

Creating four different frontends is a viable option here particularly if you haven't imposed access levels to the users. Have you a user login which could determine the appropriate form for each user? You should also create a mde of the frontend to stop the user from altering the structure but backup the mdb file first.

Hi Mary,
Thank you for your input. I did not think of setting up user login, which would probably be the easiest. Thank you for the advice.

No problem.
Glad I could help.

Personally I'd store the front end (MDE if you like) on the network too, but create a form which starts automatically, which is programmed to switch to one of the other forms depending on the Network Logon Name of the operator. These could even be stored in a table for later flexibility. This would have the benefit of a single release if changes are required rather than trying to maintain four separate versions.

Hi,
Here is my situation. Can anyone provide insight?
I have developed a database in Access 2002. I am planning to distribute it
as a split MDE (front) / MDB (back) to be used by the Access runtime and
also full-version. Some of the client workstations will have Access 2002
installed. Most of them will have the runtime installed.
However, I can't find the Office 2002 Developer Edition anywhere! Nobody has

Hi
We need some advice: We are thinking of upgrading our Access database
from Access 2000 to Access 2004.
How stable is MS Office 2003? (particularly Access 2003).
We are just a small company and this is a big decision for us(!) It's
not just the money it's committing to an new version of Access!

Is the runtime version of Access for distribution, that is available with
the developer extensions a fully functional version of Access apart from the
ability to create, edit and code a database? I am particularly interested to
know if the Linked Table Manager will function, as I make use of this in one
of my applications as a way the user can reconnnect to the backend if they
should choose to move it to a different location after...

We are running an Access 2000 MDB with a SQL 7 back end. Our network guy is
upgrading to Windows Server 2003 and wants to upgrade Office and SQL Server
at the same time. We're moving to SQL Server 2005, and, since he already has
licenses for Office Pro 2002, he wants to upgrade to that.
I've been saying that we need to upgrade to Access 2003, not 2002, even if
Office is kept at 2002. We are also looking to do a fair amount of...

I'm confused about what is necessary to distribute an Access 2003
application to people that don't have MS Access (or don't have the
right version) installed on their PCs. I have done some research on
the MS website, as well as on this newsgroup, and have never found a
clear explanation of what is required.
I have written an application that I would like to sell, but if I can
only sell to those with access to Access (sorry, couldn't...

I am developing an HR package under Access 2003 for a client but do not
want to give him the source code.
I understand that under these circumstances I would need to compile my
package, thus converting it into an MDE file. How do I go about doing
this & what would the client need to have installed on his PC ? i.e.
(Would the client need to have Access installed on his PC ?)
I currently own a copy of MS Office Professional Edition 2003.

Most of my projects are developed in Access 2003. I have not even installed
Office 2007 yet!
I need to buy VSTO to get the run-time licence for Access 2003. No doubt I
will soon need a run-time licence for Access 2007. Is there a version of
VSTO that has the Access run-time licence for both version of Access? Or
will I need to buy VSTO 2003 now and then VSTO 2007 at a later date?
Thanks,

Hi !! I'm about to develop a new project for a client.
Should I go about it in Access 2003 or 2007 ? Purchasing it either
for me or for my client is not a major consideration here ... what I'd
like to know is the stability, speed & ease of use of both the
products.
I believe Access 2007 has a new file format too and that it may be
slower.

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
