Transfer data from one Access database to another

Hi,

I've developed a worklist system in Access and I plan to deploy four
copies of it to the four users that need it. I said I'll be deploying
copies because there is no shared network in the cave I'm working in.
Each of the users will have their own copy and work on it on their own
machines. It's so 1989 I dunno what to do with myself.

Anyway, the manager wants to get a copy of each user's data once a
month. So to my problem. I need to develop functionality that will
export each of the user's data in a format that can be emailed once a
month. The manager wants then to be able to upload the information
from the email into a master copy of the database. The unique IDs
won't be a problem but the reason I'm posting is that I'm wondering
could anyone suggest the best means of exporting the data so it can be
emailed and then uploaded to a master database with the exact same data
structure.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

While not EXACTLY what you want, I do something similar

I have a handheld barcode reader, which I use to log incoming
items at a mailroom receiving dock... ups or fedex tracking
number, and some other info I either type in manaully (the
scanner I bought has a full keypad) or from a list of codes
I made and printed and pin to a corkboard for standard stuff

Anyway, the scanner then has a function to export the data in
a comma delimited text file, which I transfer to my computer
using a scanner/vendor supplied serial port and software

Once on my computer, I wrote a macro to go to my specified
hard drive location and import the data

Since I specified the data structure on the scanner, I just
made it the same as the Access structure... so the import
works to bring the records into the database every day

Here is the macro
Action is TransferText

Then down in the Action Arguments
Transfer Type Import Delimited
Specification Name Receive Import Specification
Table Name Receive
File Name C:\Scanner\rece ive.txt
Has Field Names No
HTML Table Name (left blank)

Hopefully, enough to get you going in the right direction

The code

SaveAText 6, "", FilePathandName

should make the smallest possible file (FilePathandNam e) copy of the
data in each of your user's databases. This could be zipped and
appended to an e-mail. At the receving end it should be quite easy to
unzip the file and append it to the master db. A few lines of code
including some SQL should suffice.
