Transfer data from one Access database to another

Hi,

I've developed a worklist system in Access and I plan to deploy four
copies of it to the four users that need it. I said I'll be deploying
copies because there is no shared network in the cave I'm working in.
Each of the users will have their own copy and work on it on their own
machines. It's so 1989 I dunno what to do with myself.

Anyway, the manager wants to get a copy of each user's data once a
month. So to my problem. I need to develop functionality that will
export each of the user's data in a format that can be emailed once a
month. The manager wants then to be able to upload the information
from the email into a master copy of the database. The unique IDs
won't be a problem but the reason I'm posting is that I'm wondering
could anyone suggest the best means of exporting the data so it can be
emailed and then uploaded to a master database with the exact same data
structure.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

While not EXACTLY what you want, I do something similar

I have a handheld barcode reader, which I use to log incoming
items at a mailroom receiving dock... ups or fedex tracking
number, and some other info I either type in manaully (the
scanner I bought has a full keypad) or from a list of codes
I made and printed and pin to a corkboard for standard stuff

Anyway, the scanner then has a function to export the data in
a comma delimited text file, which I transfer to my computer
using a scanner/vendor supplied serial port and software

Once on my computer, I wrote a macro to go to my specified
hard drive location and import the data

Since I specified the data structure on the scanner, I just
made it the same as the Access structure... so the import
works to bring the records into the database every day

Here is the macro
Action is TransferText

Then down in the Action Arguments
Transfer Type Import Delimited
Specification Name Receive Import Specification
Table Name Receive
File Name C:\Scanner\rece ive.txt
Has Field Names No
HTML Table Name (left blank)

Hopefully, enough to get you going in the right direction

The code

SaveAText 6, "", FilePathandName

should make the smallest possible file (FilePathandNam e) copy of the
data in each of your user's databases. This could be zipped and
appended to an e-mail. At the receving end it should be quite easy to
unzip the file and append it to the master db. A few lines of code
including some SQL should suffice.

Hi,

Thanks for the responses. John Thomas Smith, I had been considering
using macros so it's good to know that works well for you. Lyle
Fairfield, is there some reference I need to add to my project to
obtain access to the function SaveAText or am I missing your meaning?

Thanks

LL

We both need to spell it correctly:

How can I transfer the schema of a database from one SQL Server app to another? I've used MySQL in the past and all I had to do is create a ..sql file with the DDL statements for the database, then import that file in the other db. Can I do the same kind of thing with SQL Server 2000? If so, how? Also, is there a way to transfer the schema and data? Thanks in advance for the help!!!

Has anybody tried and had any success exporting data directly from ACT! 2000 to an Access database? I need to transfer data from ACT! to Access, but the data is all imported as text, including date and number fields. If I transfer it to EXCEL first and then to Access, it is imported to Access in the correct format. Would like to know if there is an easier or quicker method of doing the transfer to Access? Regards and thanks in advance ...

It seems that my site is losing session information when using Server.Transfer. I have a page called PictureGallery.aspx. It takes an argument which is an index id, so it would look like PictureGallery.aspx?id=30 to display gallery 30. In this way I have a database driven picture gallery. To improve indexing, I put code in Global.asax to allow me to get to the same page with a url like this: Pictures_30.aspx. There is no...

I would like to know what may be the "Best" way to approach with problem. I have an application that I created to transfers data dynamically from an unknown source (ie maybe Excel, Access, XML, or SQLServer) and imports it into a datatable and then on to the dataGridView for the user to see. The thing about that initial datasource is that the application will not know how its columns are formatted up until the data is actually sent...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
