I need some advice on how to securely transfer data between two servers.
Here is the situation. We have two sql servers that hold student data.
I have full access to my sql server, but only write access to the main
sql server on campus. I hope to use XML and SSL to transfer student
data to the main server.
As for generating the XML, I'll have an asp.net page set up in a secure
directory that will generate the data in xml format. The...

Hi,
I have a procedure that transfer data from an Excel spreadsheet to an Access
2000 table. There is a start date and an end date in the range specified.
One of the date fields transfers correctly and the other one transfers as a
text field containing a number like 37917. In the spreadsheet both date
cells are formatted as a date. The data in both fields are entered as dates
(i.e. 10/27/03).
The TransferSpreadsheet Command creates...

Hey All,
I am trying to write an app that will transfer data from one SQL Server to
another. Here is my situation:
I have 2 computers neither one is connected.
I have the same database on both computers.
I need to update the data at the end of the night to reflect the changes on
the particular database.
So the data collected on computer1 needs to get to computer2 and the data on
computer2 needs to get to computer1.

I created a VB.Net 1.1 application that iterates through all the tables
in any basic Access 2000 database passed to it and generates the same
table structure in a SQL Server Express database. The structure is
created fine (with minor data conversions from one to the other, e.g.
yes/no --> bit, memo --> text, etc). My problem now is transferring the
data over from Access to SQL Server. I thought it would be a fairly
straight forward...

I need an automated procedure to copy data from an Access table to a
SQL Server table. Speed is important. What is the recommended
technique?
I can export the data from Access, copy it via FTP, then import it into
SQL Server. I've tried that, and the speed is acceptable. It is an ugly
solution, however, and I expect to find a better one -- preferably a
solution better integrated with the Access RDBMS.
I've tried using an ODBC...

Hi,
I've developed a worklist system in Access and I plan to deploy four
copies of it to the four users that need it. I said I'll be deploying
copies because there is no shared network in the cave I'm working in.
Each of the users will have their own copy and work on it on their own
machines. It's so 1989 I dunno what to do with myself.
Anyway, the manager wants to get a copy of each user's data once a
month. So to my problem. I...

Hello,
I'm trying to transfer data from an Oracle database into an Access 2003 database using VB code. I need to set this up so that it can be ran on a regular basis and I really would like to avoid using linked tables if possible.
I can open 2 ADO recordsets (one from the Oracle database and the current Access database) and write from one recordset to another by moving through the records one at a time. I've tried .Update and...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
