My database is now secure and hosted on the network and appears to be happily running thanks to several (hundred) posts on this site so thanks to everyone for the help.
One person unfortunately did some final destructive testing for me which seem to consist of nothing more than hitting random keys on the keyboard. This, to my horror, unfortunately this found a fault. Shortcut keys.
I have found a few threads online but these all say that you can disable shortcut keys in the Startup options. Unless I am going totally mad there is no such option in the window that opens up (I am running 2003).
This would appear to be the last kink in the armour so any help is most appreciated

Tools, StartUp, disable Use Special Access Keys. You can also disable any specific Key(s) combination by creating an AutoKeys Macro, assigning the Key(s) to the Macro Name column and leaving the Action column blank, e.g.
'To disable the SHIFT+F12 key combination
Macro Name____Action
+{F12}_________ <leave blank>
NOTE: For specific Key Codes, see the SendKeys Statement.
