Reports..horozo ntal line where it is not needed or wanted..

54 New Member
Hi (to the masters of chaos!!!)

I created a report using the wizard. (Access 2003).
It has the following sections:
Report Header
Page Header
Company Header
Detail
Page Footer
Report Header.

In the Company Header are among other things Column Headings for the data that is in the Details section.

Whenever I preview a report, just where the 'Details' bar is (when in design view) there is a horozontal line printed across the page. But it seems to begin about 25mm out from the left hand edge of the report(as seen in design view).

I cannot see the line to change its width to the full width of the page, though there are other horozontal lines that the wizard generated that do run from edge to edge of the report.(I mean width of the previewed report, not width of the printed report).

It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the page set-up which just happens to have a left margin of 25.45mm.

I have created another line just above the details section and dragged the detail bar up so it sits basically on top of the line I have created and it looks fine on the first page of the report, but on any subsequent pages the original line shows with its oddball width.

Any ideas how I can vanquish the offending line or change its width please?
Thanks again

If you check again you will find that the wizard put in a line either at the bottom of the Company header or the top of the details section. To check the company header just drag the details section down and you should see it. It could be over a grid line so look carefully.

If its not there move the cursor near the top of the details section but not over any other control click the mouse and then holding down the mouse pad drag the mouse over the top of the details section. The line should be highlighted and you can alter or delete it.

If neither of these works go to the object list which should be displaid on the menu/toolbar and choose any object the begins with line you should find it eventually.

Thanks Mary

First Access report I have ever made...and it was a little daunting. The report wizard had drawn 2 lines pretty much on top of one another..I guess to make a slightly thicker line than 1pt. I had thought I had dragged the line to fill the width of the page but I hadn't realised there was another one directly or nearly directly underneath the one I had dragged...so I was doing what you suggested (after having remade the report 6 times in the thought that maybe there was a glitch with the program)..and couldn't see the prooblem. Finally I went to drag the line down and only then saw there were two squeezed together.

I dont know why it just didn't make a single line with 2 points or something.

That was using 'corporate style' it put two narrowly spaced lines at the top of the Company Name header but two on top of one another for the lower line.

Thanks again for all the assistance and if I have not said it before, happy new year!

Happy New Year to you too.

You'll get the hang of it eventually. Access report styles add things like lines and frames to the report. Once you get used to them you will be able to get rid of any you don't want.

Nice answer Mary.
I know I'm often following behind picking small holes in your posts for fun, but just to show I also notice all the others (majority) where the answer's are perfect.
This one, particularly, I found helpful as I usually TAB from one control to another through the (sometimes very large) list of them all. Using the Object List tip is certainly going to prove a boon. Only, as in this case, where the controls are hard to detect easily.

I like to have my program (running on my home machine) email me (wherever I am) whenever it reaches a certain mile-stone (finishes a phase of the simulation or runs into an interesting path in the simulation). I just like add the feature so it can email me the partial results. Is there a source code for something like this I can add to my program? Do I need an SMTP server code or can I use my current SMTP ISP smtp server to email myself?...

Is there a module somewhere that intelligently deals with reports to the command line? I would like to report the progress of some pretty lengthy simulations, and currently I have the new reports written on a new line rather rather than overwriting the previous report. Thanks, Darren

I have a memo field that is included in some Access reports I created. Is there some way for the memo field to display nicely formatted text, with line breaks between paragraphs? Or is it necessary to export the report? I tried exporting a report by using the .rtf rich-text format (the plain-text format was the only other word-processing option listed when exporting). I then opened the .rtf file in Word. However, it looks like some...

I have a master "attendance" report that also has two "attendance" sub-reports...each collecting data from a different group...and totaling those present at the end. I chose sub-reports because of the way they needed the data displayed. When printing this report, they wanted an option to select by date. The sub-reports are linked to the master by this "date" field.

I've seen plenty of articles on this topic but none of them have been able to solve my problem. I am working with an Access 97 database on an NT4.0 machine, which has many Access reports. I want my users to be able to select a report, click on a command button on a form, which will then automatically create the report as a pdf file and save it to the user's machine. I am using Adobe Acrobat (5.0 I think) and have Adobe Distiller as a

Hi, I am automating Access reports to PDF using PDF Writer 6.0. I've created a DTS package to run the reports and schedule a job to run this DTS package. If I PC Anywhere into the server on where the job is running, the job runs sucessfully, PDF files got generated, everything is good. If I scheduled the job to run at the time that I am not logged into the server, Access is not able to print to the printer. The error is pretty...

Hi, I needed a method to determine if a point was on a line segment in 2D. So I googled for some help and so far I have evaluated two methods. The first method was only a formula, the second method was a piece of C code which turned out to be incorrect and incomplete but by modifieing it would still be usuable. The first method was this piece of text:

Hi all, I am using VB6 and Crystal Reports 9. I have to show the transaction in the report day by day. I have shown all the reports but what I wanted is I want to show the transaction with colors. I mean to say I want to show the transactions line by line with alternate colors. Is it possible in Crystal Reports 9? The database is too large so it is quite hard to view it because it shows the name and the amount. So, it is not easy to match the...

On reflection, you could possibly make the app a self extracting zip file which extracts the EXE and a settings file and then starts the app, then when you app closes, it can repack the settings file and itself into the exe. You would probably want a tool for this bit which could be in the zip too. So the app isnt single exe when running but when not running, it is. Just an idea for you to think about. Another option would possibly be to...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
