subdatasheets with linked tables broken? Access 2003

4 New Member
All,

Since upgrading to Access 2003 from 2002, I've noticed that all of the linked table subdatasheets I had set up in 2002 with simple relationships are now not working in 2003. Since the majority of what I do with Access is simple inserts and edits, having to bounce around multiple tables and "find" the rows based on the previous table's PK in a list of thousands, makes 2003 completely unusable. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks!

You say you had simple relationships set up. Did they have cascading updates and deletes. Can you see these relationships in the relationship window.

Yes, I could see the relationships in that view.

I've found my own solution: create a query on the first linked table, just pulling * and then when I open that query it will then allow me to insert -> subdata sheet and choose a linked table. When I was previously opening the linked table insert -> subdatasheet was greyed out and not available.

If you open the query in design view and try to change the subdatasheet via properties, again it will only allow you to assign other queries or access tables.

Again, to add subdatasheets to linked tables, build a select query on the "top" linked table, select * to return, open it to display the returned rows, click insert -> subdatasheet and choose the linked table you want. If the relationship has been created, the + sign will appear on the "top" table rows.

I changed from Access97 to AccessXP and I have immense performance problems. Details: - Access XP MDB with Jet 4.0 ( no ADP-Project ) - Linked Tables to SQL-Server 2000 over ODBC I used the SQL Profile to watch the T-SQL-Command which Access ( who creates the commands?) creates and noticed:

I would appreciate any help with this. At my wit's end. I have an access front end linking to SQL Server tables on the back end. One of these linked tables had a subdatasheet to another of the linked tables, until I changed the schema on some tables and relinked them. Now I cannot re-establish the subdatasheet link!!! Creating the relationship in access doesn't work and the INSERT subdatasheet command stays greyed out. No problem if I...

Greetings! After finally figuring out that the Linked Table manager is no longer an add-in in Access 2003 I now discover that it does not display any of my linked tables in the 'select linked tables to be updated' list. Although I have about 30 linked tables in my application, absolutely none of them are showing up in the list. I compacted and repaired, but that didn't have any effect. Has anyone else seen this problem? If so, how is...

I am using Access 2003 and are linking to an Oracle 9i ODBC datasource (using Oracle ODBC drivers). After linking the tables in Access, I inspect the data contained in the linked tables. For tables that involve a number field as the primary key, the data is returned successfully. For tables that involve a character field (e.g. CHAR(3) or VARCHAR(10)) as the primary key, I have the correct number of rows returned, but the data displayed...

I've figured out how to insert subdatasheets into tables and queries - just open the table/query, select subdatasheet from the Insert menu, and play around with the Link Child/Link Master fields until you get what you're looking for. Easy enough. But how do I use these in my forms? I tried dragging a table with a subdatasheet directly onto a form in design view, but when I opened the form, no little crosses. I don't want to give my...

I've just performed a reformat and reinstalled Access 2000 and 2003 and as usual the linked table manager in Access 2003 is broken ie. it doesn't show any tables. I've gone through the process of re-registering Accwiz.dll as outlined in the MS Knowledge Base and although this process has worked for me before, it hasn't worked this time. There are still no tables showing. The article in the knowledge base includes this line: "If the...

I've got a form that currently has a list box used to "find a record on my form" but the list in it is far too long and consists of fields of repeating data. Is there a way of creating a subform to do the same job that is in datasheet view with a collapsible subdatasheet? The main form is based on a table consisting of dates, events and venues (plus a lot of other guff not needed to explain this little problem). Each record has an ID,...

Hello, I have a VBA/Database application which reads files, analyzes them, updates a database, and then moves them to an archive. I would like to make this an atomic transaction -- that is, if the move to the archive fails, I don't want the database to be updated (and if the database update fails, I don't want the file moved...) The logic I want is as follows: Begin transaction

I am building a media management tool and starting it in Access 2003. I have various linked tables, and have sufficient code to loop through my list of linked tables to verify that the data file specified in the link is available in the specified path. I am trying to finish this portion of my code to handle the table(s) whose links are broken because the specified file no longer exists. Can someone suggest how I might "re-link" a table or...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
