Microsoft Access Application or .MDB are they the same?

A developer gave me a Microsoft Access Application approximately 42MB
that I had him design. I can open the application itself and see the
Access GUI with the buttons & menu he created, but I cannot open the
file in Access designer to modify the IP address from which it pulls
data to run the necessary reports. Do I have the incorrect files ?
Should the file extension specifically say .MDB ? When I right click
the file it says the file type is a Microsoft Access Application.
PLESE HELP !!

An mdb file can hold tables, queries forms reports code modules and macros
in any combination.

It looks as if the developer has given you what you need but missed out the
bit (or neglected to tell you how) to modify some parts. Go back to the
developer and point this out to him and get him to sort this out.

The developer may have locked you out of the design on purpose. You could
try holding the shift key when you open it but a smart developer will have
disabled it. There is a method to re-enable it but (no offence) if you're
new to Access then you might struggle. The file might have an MDB extension
but also may have an MDE one, in which case, even if you could view the
database window, you would not be able to modify the design.

Keith.

Hi, I'm a bit confused ... when would I rather write an database application using MS Access and Visual Basic and when (and why) would I rather write it using Visual Studio .Net? Is it as easy in Visual Studio to create reports and labels as it's in Access?` The advantage of VS.net is that not every user needs Access, right? And that would eliminate the Access version problem as well I guess.

Hello, We are in the process of examining our current main application. We have to do some major changes and, in the process, are questionning/validating the use of MS Access as front-end. The application is relatively big: around 200 tables, 200 forms and sub-forms, 150 queries and 150 repports, 5GB of data (SQL Server 2000), 40 users. I'm wondering what are the disadvantages of using Access as front-end? Other that it's not...

Do I get more scalability if I split my database? The way I calculate things now, I'll be lucky to get 100,000 records in my Access 2003 mdb. Here some math: Max mdb/mde size = 2000 x 1024 = 2,048,000k Let's say on average each record in the database consumes 15k 2,048,000/15 = 136,533 records

Hello folks, Would love yo get all informed opinions and/or facts on the following: Over the last few weeks I have spent quite a bit of time reviewing all the Access and .NET stuff I could find on Microsoft.com. It's seems harder and harder to find much of anything about Access as a primary development platform. I am getting the uneasy feeling that Microsoft is slowly phasing out Access.

To use the Textstream object, I had to set a Reference to the Microsoft Scripting Runtime. This works good with A2000 Is the Scripting Runtime included with A2002 and A2003 so the Reference won't be broken when my app is opened with those versions. Also is the Scripting Runtime included as part of the A2000 Runtime Engine which some of my customers use.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
