New Access User Having Trouble With A Few Things

1 New Member
Hello-

I'm fairly new at using Microsoft Access and I'm having trouble getting a couple of things to work in my database.

The first is that I have yet to find a way to get an append query to add only new records and not all the records. As an example, this query filters a list of property owners for duplicates and then appends to a table where they are assigned autonumer IDs. The problem is that I'm constantly entering new owners in and when I go to append, it assigns them all new ID numbers.

My second problem lies with data access pages, which I've created to allow our office to update the database without going through me. I want to the following things but am completely lost and can't find any help on microsoft's site.

1. Set permissions by broker. Each owner is assigned a broker in the owner table and then that data is sent to a select query where it is combined with the property information. From that query I am able to group the entries by broker but I want to create a popup box where the broker types his/her name and it automatically filters for that persons's name. Which leads to problem number 2.

2. Filtering is not working at this moment. When I click the filter button it tells me that: "arguments are of wrong type, out of range, or in conflict with each other." i am not a programmer, and have 0 idea how to fix this one.

3. Finally, when I group by broker, the data in the property section becomes uneditable. The properties are all set to "true" in the design view yet I still am unable to get it to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Back when computer dinosaurs roamed the earth and the precursors to today's Internet were tiny flocks of TDMs living symbiotically with the silicon giants, tracking access to data processing resources was much simpler: you logged in with a userID and password, and when you were done you ended your session by logging out (or occasionally by being disconnected). Connection time was easy to measure, and it made sense to both the customer...

Hello, We are in the process of examining our current main application. We have to do some major changes and, in the process, are questionning/validating the use of MS Access as front-end. The application is relatively big: around 200 tables, 200 forms and sub-forms, 150 queries and 150 repports, 5GB of data (SQL Server 2000), 40 users. I'm wondering what are the disadvantages of using Access as front-end? Other that it's not...

Hi What future does access have after the release of vs 2005/sql 2005? MS doesn't seem to have done anything major with access lately and presumably hoping that everyone migrates to vs/sql. Any comments? Thanks

I'd like to open a discussion about the state of the industry. For the past year, I've been unable to find competent Access developers available for hire. I'm worried about that. I think there's great demand right now, and that's keeping the good developers busy, but that's not enough to explain the situation. Whenever I post an Access job, I get lots of responses from .NET developers, back-end database people, and web developers. They...

Is there any way I can limit the access to my website? I have a site "A" and I want to allow access to it only from site "B" login user. If someone try to access site "A" directory, I want it redirected to site "B" for login. After login at site "B", you see the link to site"A". When you click it, you see login page for site "A". Is it possible? Thanks.

Hi All, People keep saying things like "Access is a nightmare" or "Access is hell" but the only people I hear this from are peopel who aren't that experienced in using Access. The most I can tie these people down to is that Access isn't robust, that it only allows a few users and that the locking on it is terrible. I used it before for a single user worklist system and it was excellent. I'm now developing a system for a charity...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
