I'm inserting a record into MySQL 4.0 using Visual Basic ADO. When
using the AddNew and Update method I am unable to retrieve the value
of a Auto incrment field (Yes I know I can MoveLast but this icreases
the update time by a factor of 10 and when your talking about 200,000

Hi,
I need an auto incrementing field that will contain values like
N000001, N000002, N000003 etc.
I think the way is to use the value from an identity field in a stored
procedure that is triggered at insert.
I can't see that it can be made in pure SQL, but Java is not a problem.
Any of you that can tell me the way of doing it ?

I have a database that uses an auto number field type that goes out of
sync periodically. My customer gets a "cannot add record, number already in
use" error message. I dump the records into a new table starting at auto
number 1, and sequentially up to about 20,000. Everything is fine for a
month or two, then the auto number field goes berserk again. Do you have

form for entering customer details. When i add a new customer on the
form the customer number is an auto number that appears when i type in
the details.
I have just moved over to mysql server with access as the front end. I

I forgot to turn on auto increment when I reinstalled this database and now I have a bunch of NULL values in my ID field for last few hundred inserts, how can I update this table to replace the NULLS with a new ID value where the ID is an auto increment with out losing the ID values of old records, basically i want to do this:
UPDATE ID SET id = 'NEW AUTO #' where ID = 'NULL'
I hope this makes sense, I am not bound to having the numbers...

It seems like a simple request, but I cannot get it to work. Does anyone know to how to make data from one field auto populate in another field, only if the answer is yes/true? I have a form that I would like the exact data, which varies, to auto populate only after an update to yes.
