Update auto increment feild to replace nulls

1 New Member
I forgot to turn on auto increment when I reinstalled this database and now I have a bunch of NULL values in my ID field for last few hundred inserts, how can I update this table to replace the NULLS with a new ID value where the ID is an auto increment with out losing the ID values of old records, basically i want to do this:
UPDATE ID SET id = 'NEW AUTO #' where ID = 'NULL'

I hope this makes sense, I am not bound to having the numbers sequential to the old records so I was going to set the identity seed at 5000 (my old records stopped at id 4350 ) so if i start to seed from 5000 i know i wont use same ID

I don't know if jdbc/java code requires this, but when I use two gui admin tools I found, and I insert a row into the table using their row editor feature, both require me to enter a number for the Serial type. I thought this type was used to auto-increment an id field and that I would not need to enter anything into it? Basically we need the normal indexed ID field for each table, and we want it to auto-increment. The serial shows a function of...

I am trying to store information into a table that has an auto increment field. There is currently no data in the table. Using the code below I cannot insert data into the table. I get an error telling me that "Number of query values and destination fields are not the same." If I add a value for the auto increment field to the SQL String the data is entered into the table with no problems but obviously the auto increment field now...

I want to have my application (VB.NET) check a table on an SQL server to see if there is a newer version released and, if so, download and install the new version. I know how to setup the database table but I am looking for ideas on how to handle the update. Since the application is running, I can't just replace that EXE. The only way I've thought of is to have a small front end app that does the version check and download if needed? I'm...

In VB6 there is Auto Increment check box in Project Properties, which allow you have a new version every time you compile the project. Is there any easy way to have this feature in VB 2005? Some of my blocks of code check and compare versions of EXE and DLLs located on the local workstation and the server. So it's very important for me to have an incremented number in case the project was rebuilt. It can be done manually, of course, but I...

Is it true that if I split my access database in backend and frontend and I implement custom auto increment for the ID fields, that my database is ready to be used in a multi-user environment? I found a zillion messages about auto increment and read some of them but it's confusing. Can someone point me to a simple custom auto increment example that I can download? Thank you, john

hi, I created a setup file using the Publish Wizard in Visual Studio 2005 and installed the software in the client machine. Now I want to update some of the installed files in the client machine with NEW ones. Is there anyway that it can be done automatically without i telling the user which files to replace and which not. Is creating a batch file a good option or their are other better options available.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
