Field value to remain constant in data entry?

Hi

How do I set an access form in such a way that it keeps some field
values constant in an open session?

It is a multiple user data entry form, so I prefer that once a user
inputs his name, the form should display the same name all through so
the user does not have to put it in each time..

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Sunny

if the data entry form is the 'continuous form' type and not Datasheet
you can put unbound text boxes in the form header.
The user can populate these when they first load the form. Give the
txtboxes nice names like 'txtInputBy' and set this up as the default
value property for the data field. i.e.'=[txtInputBy]'
Every time you go to a new record the field will be populated with
whatever is in the textbox.
The value in the txtbox will die when the user closes the form.
Hope that is where you were going.

Thanks Garth

I need to store that name on each record, so what exactly would I need
to do? Sorry if it is a dumb question, but I am a novice user.

Cheers

Ok, very, very basic. Take a copy of the form and we will play with
that. You need to get the input form into design mode and display its
properties. You will see a detail section full of controls and possibly
a formheader and footer section. If there isn't a form header go to
'View' and select form header/footer. Resize them as necessary. Insert a
textbox into the header area using the icon 'ab|' and resize as
necessary using the handles. In the properties box 'Data' section the
controlsource must be blank. In the 'Other' section change the name
property to something like 'txtInputBy'.
Now click on the control in the detail section which is going to take
the default. In the properties 'Data' section set the defaultvalue
property to '=txtInputBy'
Try it and see. Each time you move on to a new record the default value
will populate the box. Remember you are still attached to the live data
even on the copy form.
I guess we are a several hours apart but I keep strange hours
Good luck and ask anytime.

Hi there, I wonde if anyone can help me. I have a couple of problems which I am having trouble resolving. Firstly, I have written a form which includes field for First Name, Surname and Address, etc I wish to add either a checkbox or button to enable the user to click and copy details into fields further down the form to avoid the need to retype. Here is the relevant section of the form:
Sample Order Information Form

(Hope I can ask this clearly...) I have three tables: tblPayments, tblCompanies, and tblPeople. tblPayments contains a field called lngPayeeID that needs to relate to records from tblCompanies and tblPeople. Why? Because a "payee" (lngPayeeID) can be either a company (tblCompany.lngCompanyID) or a person (tblPeople.lngPersonID). I know how to relate tblPayments.lngPayeeID to a single table's field, such as tblCompanies.lngCompanyID. I...

I have a form that when you tab from field to field that the entry point is blank, but if you point and click in the field it brings up a 0 and data entry is started to the left of the zero. Thus if you are click and enter 8 becomes 80, but if you tab to the field and enter 8 it is 8. So my question: is there an easy way to have Access XP-2002 keep the entry on the form blank when you click on a field to enter data?

Hello, Have yet another problem on a form that has me stumped. In a table that I am working with, the values for one of the fields are stored in meters. However the values that are supplied for data entry are in feet. Therefore, I don't believe that I can use a bound text box to support the entry of data for this field. I could use an expression to compute the value for display in the text box as follows: *100/(12*2.54)

I am using Access 2002 and have two tables (Main and Actions) linked (in Relationships) on one field "CAL_ID" (primary key in Main Table). Main Table is a list of equipment. Actions Table lists actions performed on these pieces of equipment (calibration, cleaning, etc.) so there are many records per every one record in the Main Table. I have a form based on Main Table, containing a subform for Actions Table. This is used for data...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
