I have an Access 95 database. This database has run for years and now is
giving me a problem. When opened, the switchboard works fine and the
database functions. However, when I close the switchboard and try to open a
table, query or report, the tabs show up for table, query, report and etc.
However, the white box that lists the names of the tables, queries, reports
does not appear. A small rectangle appears in the upper left hand corner of
the screen but there are no buttons on it so I cannot close it or maximize
it. I tried Access repair and compact and even tried to open it with a
later version but the same problem arises. I cannot convert it to a later
version as it says there is a compile error. As such, I cannot open any
table, query or report, but the database runs via the switchboard. Is this
a corrupt file? Is there any way to reliably fix it or a service I can send
the file to for repair that deals with this type of problem? I have seen
some on the web, but they seem limited to table repair. Does anyone have
experience with this?

Lets try the simple answer first.
Open the database so you can see the "small window"
Hit Alt-Minus (the alt key and the Minus key on the keyboard) together. A
menu should appear.
Select Maximize from the menu.

The foucs never gets to the "small rectangle", I can only maximize the
switchboard or the menu with the table, queries, reports etc, and even if I
close both the switchboard and the menu with the tables, queries, reports,
and then close the database, the small rectangle remains with access in the
background.
