Last night I gave a presentation about our therapy dogs to a local
group. I don't often give presentations and I have a great distaste
for anything approaching "PowerPoint". When I was asked to present

Hi everybody!
I wonder if this is possible?
I need to determine if a client is using "windows classic folders" or
anything else. If I instantiate a Shell ActiveX object is there a way
of obtaining this information from javascript? (I know that the user
will get prompted about allowing such an operation, but I am willing
to live with this). Because of the way one of my pages work, I need
to know this information in order to "cover up"...

In Windows XP display Properties/Appearance users can chose between:
Windows XP Style or Windows Classic Style.
Is there a way in VBA to determine the user's selection?
The reason:
Toolbars size taller in XP than in Classic so I need to size all those
nifty windows sizing commands depending on the user's preference.

Is there anything in the ANSI C standard covering the means by which I
can determine the operating system and compiler being used (at the
preprocess stage) ?
If so, then how might I determine (at the preprocess stage) whether the
operating system upon which the app is being built is Win32 or not, and
whether the compiler being used is gcc or not ?

I just made an installer for an application that uses two external COM dlls.
On the surface, everything seems to be running smoothly and the the
application runs without any errors. However, I am not completely satisfied
by my implementation.
I basically used a software that generates an msi file quite easily and
included the two dlls in my package. I then edited the msi file using orca,

WebService.
I'm working with VS2005 Framework 2.0 under WinXP.
The system is at the end of its development stage and was both checked
on a WinXP & Win2003 32bit systems on the same computer (Standard P4 -

Here's my problem.
I have an NT service (really a .NET service) running as local system.
I have a .NET form running on the user account. The form and the
service communicate via an IPC Channel so the form can control the
service and do various things. Both applications share the same set
of dlls.
When performing an update of some of the dlls, both the service and
