Import Text Wizard Doesn't Work in Access 2003

What's up with the text import wizard in Access 2003? We have a large
text file that needs to be imported. Tried it on Access 2003 and it
just sits there with an hourglass. Tried it on Access 97 and it opened
right up!

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Laura

Laura:

It's hard to know the exact cause without more information, however the
following two KB articles deal with the type of problem you are seeing. The
second article does not specifically refer to importing text files, so it
may not be relevant.

Greetings When I use the import text wizard with a fixed width text file, I add a break at the correct column but it doesn't line up with the text. It seems that the display is shown in a non-proportional font. When I look at the text file in notepad it's all nicely lined up but in the wizard it's all over the place. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Access 2K, SP3 on Windows 2K, SP4 All, I have an import spec set up with quoted Identifiers and comma-separated values. The text file is produced by a 3rd-party program of which I have no control. It outputs all text fields surrounded by quotes, and all numeric fields w/o quotes. All fields are separated with commas. This has been working for 2 years, until today, when one of the data fields

Since I got a new PC with XP and the latest version of Access on it, I have been having problems with the Text Import Wizard. In the section where you specify the field options, when I click on different fields, the field name doesn't change at the top so I can't change the data type of any field other than the first one. Is this a setting that I can change or fix somewhere? Any feedback would be great - thanks!

I've been trying to use the Access Import Wizard to expedite importing data into my mdb. The nice thing about the wizard is that I can import from different file formats - txt, xls, even Outlook - and dump everything into a table. The problem is once I have the data imported into a new table, I can't do much with it. If I try to run an Append query and insert data from the new table into an existing table, the query fails - "Error...

Hi All. I'm looking for any help or sample code that can show me how to make a file import wizard in ASP.NET (VB preferred) like the one that MS Access uses. I'm working on a web site where the user has the ability to upload a file (.txt or .csv). The data in the file may be comma delaminated, tab delaminated, fixed width etc (we don't know). What I'd like to create is something like MS Access uses to import an Excel file into the...

I am working with a client running 2003 Access. Some time ago I built them an import spec for use with the Import Wizard. Several months later, I have been called back and asked to solve a problem ... they tried to customize the spec and now the Import Wizard always fails on the last step (when one presses the 'finish' button), returning the dialogue box message "Invalid Use of Null". Running some test, I have determined that the...

hello cdma enthusiasts. long time no speak. i have an .adp which is connected to a sql 2k back end from which i need to export a table to a tab delimited text file. the export text wizard apparently doesn't allow you to store export specs (makes sense since it has no local storage) so i'm not sure the TransferText method is going to do the trick. i need to do this in VBA. any suggestions? it's been a while since i've been active in...

Import text wizard says: I'm banging my head on this one, here's why: I've been importing files using this process and data format, with success! I created a temporary table in Access to facilitate my import process (It's all text columns, I perform transformations later). And I created a template in Excel to correspond to the table - essentially it's just column headers: In Excel, I've been opening files of work that we've done...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
