Can not open database file

Hi, all

We have a database which was running on the server and used by several
users. We can not the database now with the following message:

The "*.mdb" need to be repaired or isn't a database file.
You or another user may have unexpectedly quit Microsoft Access while
the Access database was open.

I tried to compact and repair, but it was failed. I tried to open a new
blank database file and import the bad database file, it was failed
too.

Please give me some suggestions!

Thanks a lot for the help!

restore it from your last backup. (you do backup daily, don't you?)

Unless someone comes up with a solution, tt sounds to me like someone
tried to open it in MS Word which destroys mdbs. Hopefully you've a
back up somewhere along the line.

I had this problem with a client's app this week. They didn't realize that
their backup of the back end didn't include the .mdb file (their network
contractor put it on a dedicated workstation because it was a mission
critical file, but then didn't back it up because it was just a workstation.
sigh.

I went after the file by OKing the attempt to fix - and it did. However, it
went from 15 mb to 5 mb in the process. I checked every table by opening
and jumping to the last record - everything looked good. I ran some of the
summary reports and the numbers looked right.

Any ideas on why so much space was recovered. I compacted MY backup of the
db from the prior week and got very little size reduction.

Any ideas?

To be expected - if you cannot open a database then you cannot import
from it.

If you can open it but cannot compact it then the import method has
value.

Hi VB fans I'm working on a relatively large project in VB6 with about a dozen forms, including graphs, labels, text boxes, etc. The software itself is actually a flow simulator with more or less complex technical calculations, several input variables. Access97 Database The database is split into a frontend and backend and not connected to any other database. The database has an unbound report with 15 subreports. Some of the subreports include Excel charts in unbound object frames. When I add 3 additional subreports, I get the error message that Access can't open any more databases. Can anyone suggest what may be causing the error message. Thanks!

Hi, Imagine the following situation: I have an asp.net application which allows uploading files to a SQL Server 2000 database (Files are stored as type "images"). How can I create a file "in memory" as I don't want to create temporary files stored on my web server and

Original Post: The following problem started on my PC about a week ago and I can't link it to any specific change. I'm using Access XP. If I have any database open and try to open any other database by double clicking its file in Explorer, it takes about 5 seconds to open. Previously the second database would open almost instantaneously, as one would expect on a reasonably fast machine.

A97. Split database. Frontend DB1.MDB. Backend DB1BE.MDB. Tables are linked between DB1 and DB2. From my testing, if I open DB1 exclusively using /excl the backend DB1BE is not opened exclusively. If I open DB1 but have no tables open and then open up DB1BE exclusively, DB1BE will open exclusive. But if I then attempt to open a linked table in the frontend DB1 I'm informed I can't use the table because the file is in use.

I just recently changed my database that I'm running from a monolithic DB to a split FE/BE. The front end resides on the client machine and the BE resides on a network drive. I'm experimenting with a utility developed by Tony Toews to handle the distribution and subsequent updates of the software. I'm having some trouble with the overall upgrade process I've implemented, and I'm hoping one of you may have an idea how to go about fixing...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
