Removinc and installing A97

Last Friday I decided to reinstall Access97 on my machine. At the time,
I didn't have the ability to save a table as a text file. This occurred
after I had removed A2K. (I might have saved myself some time by simply
re-registering MSText35.Dll) Anyway, I got into installation hell when
I removed Office97 from my computer and reinstalled.

I got the Hatten.TTF no license problem
I got the Htmlmarq.ocx no registration error
I got numerous "Installati on failed" errors
I got the can't find VBA6.DLL error
Access would open but doing anything in it would Dr Watson it.
My references pointed to VBA6.DLL and not VBA332 and couldn't change
I installed VB6 to see if that would help
Sometimes the install would go through correctly but Access would fail
Sometimes all Office components would install except Access.

It was a mess. I couldn't believe an MS product couldn't be installed.
If you ever get into Access97 installation hell (maybe not since its
so old) but...I finally went to the source and found a couple of
articles to assist you if you suffer the same fate as I.

I can empathize, Salad. I strongly resist all suggestions
to reinstall any component of ODE because of FEAR!
I have neither the time nor the will and I certainly don't
have the experience to recover quickly from such
dilemmas. Hope you're back up 'n running now.

As I remember, it is recommended that you install multiple versions of
Access in ascending version order. So if you were installing A97, you first
needed to uninstall later versions, install A97 then reinstall the later
versions in Ascending verision order.

It really isn't necessary, as long as you install each version into a
different subfolder, and tell Office not to remove the old version.

My Microsoft-induced installation hell was not caused by this. Others
have suffered my fate because Microsoft wouldn't have provided KB
articles on how to drive a stake thru the heart of an A97 installation
if others hadn't experienced the same problem. In fact, they had a
utility to wipe out A97...as long as the OS wasn't XP. For XP, it was a
tedious, registry-filled chore.

One of my development PC's died, and I need to have legacy VS and VS.Net installed at the same time. On the now dead PC, I had VS6 installed prior to installing VS.Net. This worked just fine. On my working PC, I already have VS.Net installed, but not VS6. My question, will installing the older VS6 with VS.Net already installed give me problems with VS.Net. Or should I first remove the VS.Net, install VS6, then re-install VS.Net? Gerald

Existing applications on this machine had specified version 4.0 of the Jet OLEDB provider in a data source string in their config files. I have a small Windows Service program that just has a timer on it and it built fine. I try to install it using InstallUtil and I get the following message: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The account name is invalid or does not exist, or the password is invalid for the account name specified I am in the same folder my program is in (MyService.exe). I assume it has to do with Logon Credentials.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
