Hiding Columns in a Query

Is there a way to hide columns in a query? If so, where would I find
some sample code on this topic?

If this can be done, is it better to hide columns in a query, or simply
build a second query with only those columns I require?

It depends. What are you trying to do with those columns that are
there? (Basically, *why* are they there?) If those columns you don't
want are there for sorting or grouping reasons, you can just un-check
the box to "turn them off" from the display.

I am referring to whether it can be done in code.

Here's the scenario. I want to provide the user an option button on
a form to "exclude" certain columns when running a query.

When "running" a query or "viewing" a query? Users should really never be
looking at tables or queries directly; however if I wanted to do that I would
give them a list of fields on a form and modify the SQL of the QueryDef before
opening it so it only included the fields they chose.

In code... The easiest and simplest way would be to use a form, and
then toggle the visible property of the controls that you want to hide
or unhide.

Hi, Is there a way to use a 2 column table as a lookup for a combo box, having one field show up on the form, and the other field actually written to the output table? Here's an example: I have a reference table called "R" with the following values: { (0, 'Price'),

I found some tutorial which had the following example for hiding columns in a DataGrid: http://samples.gotdotnet.com/quickstart/util/srcview.aspx?path=/quickstart/aspplus/samples/webforms/ctrlref/webctrl/datagrid/datagrid7.src&file=CS\datagrid7.aspx&font=3 The problem is, I have no "Columns" property on my DataGrid! I'm using Visual C# .NET IDE, which has version 1.1 of the framework. Do I need a more advanced version of the framework?

The DataGrid allows you to make columns visible or invisible on demand - even edit and other special columns. This article will show you how it is done. Some developers have reported problems controlling the visibility of columns in the DataGrid control. The problem usually comes down to one fact. The DataGrid has a property called AutoGenerateColumns. The default value is "True". This means that when AutoGenerateColumns is set to True,...

I queried a series of fields from a database and passed into a datatable. Then bound this to a datagrid. I need to hide 2 of the colums. This doesnt seem to be working the standard way. (with datagrid columns hide). When I query for number of columns in datagrid I always get 0 no matter what, even after showing all the columns. I must dynamically build the table after page post (I pass in parameters to define the table I'll be querying) so...

Hi, On my SQL Server 2000, I have a table of data (tblAllData) containing a number of columns, some of which are 'secret'. I have to let some users access the database using ODBC from an Excel sheet, and I would like that they do not know at all that the columns exist. I tried creating a view for them (qryAllData) that only selects the columns that should be visible, but when the creating the ODBC-connection, both the query and the...

Based on wether a row is selected in a GridView I need to HIDE the last two columns of a gridview. I do NOT need to make the cells invisible I want to hide the entire column. When I set the Visible property on the columns it causes the underlying ObjectDataSource to re-issue the Select statement. How can I hide these columns without double clutching the ODS Select?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
