2003 Database can be opened with default system.mdw

After creating a new dtabase and system.mdw permissions and security
can be bypassed by opening the database with the default system.mdw for
access 2003. This was not true with access 2000.
Any thoughts

It has always been true when you apply security incorrectly.

ANY time you can open a file without being asked to login you are doing so
as the user "Admin" as a member of the group "Users". Neither of these
entities should have any permissions so this should prevent the file from
opening.

Your file must be granting permission to one or both of these or else
"Admin" still has some ownerships. This last is usually the detail that is
missed. Owners have permissions above and beyond those that you assign to
them.

Once again this was not a problem in Access 2000. With 2003 no matter
what you do to users groups and permissions with a newly created MDW
file those changes are thrown out the window when you open the file
with the default MDW file. The user admin now has controll over the
entire application unless youe set a password for the code or set a
password for the database. The database password is not user friendly
and does not prevent a passworded user from opening the database with
the default MDW and looking at design.

Hi Is there any way of carrying out an automatic daily/weekly backup of an Access 2003 database without the user having to manually remember to do it themselves? Thanks in advance. Dawn

We secured an Access MDB for a client, using the Access 2000 (or above - still trying to find that out) security wizard. I trust the developer who did this, and the screendumps of the process don't give any indication he missed a step, or got an error, etc. On several machines in our office, if you try to open the database without the special system.mdw, you correctly get an error "You do not have the necessary permissions...". With that...

Hi All: Here's what may be a confusing question. I have an application which has a basic help window that is attached to a Windows application. It uses IE objects to render html text. The user isn't aware that the basic help window is an IE window since it has no controls on it. Within that window, however, are links to "advanced help" pages which I want to open in a new (full-size) window in the DEFAULT system browser. The problem is...

I have a database that had been stable until 3 weeks ago. The Access 2003 database occasionally (a couple of times a week) gets corrupted when the last user exits the application. At least, that's what I'm assuming since they get no error while working. If I make a copy of the database prior to the last user logging out, that copied DB remains undamaged. If I attempt to log back the original DB in once everyone is out, I get the dreaded...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
