Japanese characters corrupt database

I have a database I use for training. I copy the database to the local
drive of each studens machine. During training, as we work through a
series of exercises, some of the machines will convert the text in some of
the fields in the database to Japanese characters and corrupt the database.

There is no consistency in when this occurs. It is not specific to any
particular table, form, report, query or module. It is random and does not
occur on every machine, even though each machine has a copy of the same
database.

In some classes, it will occur only once and when the database is replaced
with another copy, there is no corruption. In other cases, it is
persistent and corrupts the new copy, as well.

Has anyone experienced the same thing and if so, do you have a resolution?

And there is no network involved here? That is each student gets thier own copy of
the database?

If so this is very wierd. All the corruptions I'v ever seen involve a network and/or
multiple users in a database.

Hmm, are you using your own MDW for security? Does it have the same name as the MDB?

For more information on corruption including possible causes, determining the
offending PC, retrieving your data, links, official MS KB articles and a list of
vendors who state they can fix corruption see the Microsoft Access Corruption FAQ at

Hi, I am developing a vocabulary trainer. The languages I want to support are German and Japanese. When I try to store Japanese characters in my mysql database, I do not get the correct characters. The entry of the field is "???" instead of the Japanese character. I tried to store the character with my java application and with the MySQL Control Center. I know I have to configure the mysql database. But I do not know how. I created my...

SQL 2000, latest SP. We currently have the need to store data from a UTF-8 application in multiple languages in a single database. Our findings thus far support the fact that single-byte and double-byte characters can be held in the same DB without issue. However, when holding two sets of DIFFERING double-byte characters (i.e. Chinese and Japanese) there are issues. Since Japanese has a superset of both Kanji and Katakana characters...

I have tried converting the database to Access 2000, however this now

We are converting a data warehouse to a Unicode database to get ready for multilingual support. If we will have 95% of our data in English as we currently do, and less than 5% in other foreign languages including Japanese, it appears as if we would be best off using codepage of 1208 and UTF-8. We are thinking we would need to expand our 'char' and 'varchar' datatypes by four times to accommadate the Japanese data. Using 'varchar' should...

I'm having some troubles with the japanese character set and mysql. I have a list of vendors with their languages in a table. The language list for Japanese has been stored in Japanese. When I view the tables in phpMyAdmin, I see the proper Japanese characters. They are stored using utf8_unicode_ci. When I create a query, and try to display them on an HTML page, I only get question marks. The page is displayed using utf8. I don't know...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
