DSum basic help

Is there a web site that can ofer some help. The quotation marks are posing
an issue as well as other items for this function. I have some books but
they are not consistent in their use of the code lingo. Thank you for any
help. Presently I have tables and forms to gather employee info. I use the
subform to gather status of absence, text field. What I want to do is
calculate the vacation hours and subtract them from the total alocation of
vacation alloted per year. I presently have my subform set up to input the
staus condition, hours off and then to segregate the vacation hpurs I added
a second field of hours of vacation to Sum the Vacation hours separate from
the other hours of absence that are not related to vacation. I can set up a
query with a parameter to extract the vacation hours only which is simple
enough but how can I erase the second hours column and replace it with DSum
function to tidy up the subform so data entry personnel only see one hours
filed on the form. Presently the form runs off tables. Should I rebuild the
form and run it off a query with the vacation parameter built in to the
field.

All help is welcome.

OK,
1. The domain function DSum, (like DCount, DAvg, etc.) syntax is enclose
each required element with double quotes and separate them commas -
DSum("[thing I want to total]","[where the records are]","[condition(s) that
I want to filter records]")

2. You really don't want to store calculated values. Use an unbound control
on your subform to subtract the hours data entered from the allocated leave
time. Recalculate that for any form/report where you need to see the hours
remaining.

I'm using Access 97 and need some assistance in sorting out a proper DSum expression, or maybe even DCount might be an alternative. I have tried numerous combinations, but with no apparent success. The DSum function relates to a subform (sfrmCost) with a text box (RefCost) which is intended to be the container for a total from a query (qryItems). The query has three number columns from the table (tblItems) of which I have an expression...

I seemed to be having problems with structuring the use of NZ with a DSum expression. Having tried numerous variations of the expression without success, I'm asking for assistance. And when viewing the subform in the linked main form the two grand total boxes display #Error if no entry had been made. Those with...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
