password protect exported .xls and import it!

I have used outputTo to export a copy of a table out of access into
excel. I was wondering if there is anyway to set a password on this
within the code so that it is read only in .xls format?

I was also hoping that there might be a away of importing a password
protected excel file into a table in access where the password is
known. I have searched help and can't see anything and also I couldn't
find the answer here as yet. I hope someone can help.
Thanks in advance.

I'll take question 2, Bob... Check Carl Prothman's website for a
connection string to Excel.

so it can't be done programmaticall y then??? any ideas on the first
question about exporting a table and protecting it!??????

As far as importing data from a protected Excel worksheet goes, I'd suggest
you just try it.
I had no trouble in Access 2000 when I tried.
No password is required, just as none is required when you open a
password-protected Excel sheet just to read it.

Now as to setting a password programmaticall y, this is not available under
OutputTo. You can think of OutputTo as a wizard, which does a number of
steps for you, but won't do things that aren't in its steps.
The more flexible (and more complex) method is to use Automation to open
the spreadsheet you have just created and set a password for it. Automation
is a bigger subject than will fit well in a newsgroup post, but I'm sure you
can find information on it in any intermediate to advanced Access text, and
probably in a number of other places as well.
Post back if you run into specific questions.

(with all due respect to Pieter, who has many very useful posts here, I
don't think the URL he suggested has much relevance to your issues.)

I need a scheme to give people password access to JavaScript quizzes that I have. I've done a lot of programming but almost no JS. Probably one password per person for each of five tests. I suspect I will be maintaining the lists but if there is a *very* easy routine that an end user could use it would be nice. It usually takes more than five visits to get this guy up on anything new.

Hi all, I have a program that serves client programs. The server has a login password, which has to be used by each client for logging in. So, when the client connects, it sends a string with a password, which is then validated on the server side. The problem is obvious: anyone can get the password just sniffing the network. How can I solve this?

Hi there, I don't know much about web design but I proudly managed to password protect a page on my site. Later I realized that everyone looking at the source in any web browser can see the password. Is there a way to improve this code so that instead of the password people viewing the page source would only see bullets instead of the characters of the password (or hide it alltogether?) Thank you for your help.

What are my options for *securely* storing/retrieving the ID and password used by an ASP.NET application for accessing a SQL Server (using SQL Server authentication)? Please note that this ID and password would be different than the one the user enters for ASP.NET forms authentication. The ID/password in question is used by the application, itself, for accessing the SQL Server. Thanks in advance.

Why Password protect an MDB when someone can google and get a hack? Wondering if anyone else has thought of this and just said "oh well"... I plan to password protect an MDB where I have some system/program variables and data. But looking in google, there are plenty of programs a user can download to hack and crack that password.

I wrote a simple VB.NET application that imports and edits CSV files. Now I’d like to “lock” the raw (pre-import) CSV files so these cannot be opened separately. It is not high-sensitive data, I just don’t want folks to peek in the files. So time-consuming encryption is not necessary, just a simple password-to-open that I can program in my application so it internally opens the imported CSV file would be perfect, but I can’t...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...
