Syncronizing

Is it possible to Syncronize with a CD to Access Runtime? I have a
program that needs to be updated yearly and we are trying to find the
best way to distribute it and then update it without loosing the data
that is entered in the mean time. Some of the computers have Access and
some do not, so runtime must be included, but I am not sure how to
update querys and forms that can be distributed without loosing data.
I would also like to know how to make queries not visible so the
reciever is not able to see what queries are used.
Thank you for all of your help.

You should split the application into a front-end and a back-end.

The front-end is the user interface: Queries, Forms, Reports, Macros,
Modules, and any local look-up Tables whose data does not change. It will be
linked to the Tables in the back-end. You can replace the front-end at will
without affecting the data. You will not have to replace the runtime support
when you replace the front-end database.

The back-end is the data store: tables, relationships, and data. Only if you
change the data structure do you need to change the back-end. That will be a
more complicated change, and it will be very specific to your data
structure.

Typically, a fully-developed application will not expose the Database Window
to the user, so they will not see queries -- only Forms and Reports that you
display to the user.

Modifying a back-end without interfering with existing data and developing
applications are subjects of a greater scope than can be handled in a simple
newsgroup post.

Some intermediate to advanced books that I think might be useful are _Access
<version> Developer's Handbook_ by Litwin, Getz, et al, published by Sybex
and _Programming MS Access <version> by Dr. Rick Dobson, published by
Microsoft Press. If those prove too advanced, try _Microsoft Access 2003
Inside Out_ by John Viescas, published by Microsoft Press and/or _Special
Edition Using Access <version>_ by Roger Jennings, published by Que.

You might also take a look at the Training links on
http://office.microsoft.com -- there are a number of online training
sessions, each brief enough to be convenient. The FAQ site at
http://www.mvps.org/access is full of good information and links. You'll
find more links, some different than the ones on the FAQ site at
http://ntaccess.tripod.com, in the Resources section.

Hi all, Does anyone know how the implementations on Linux and Windows handle synchronization between a read and write FD open to the same file. For example, if I have 2 FD open to file X.txt. 1 I use for reading, the other for writing. If I write to position 125 on the write_FD, call flush, and then turn around and read from the read_FD position 125, am I guaranteed to get the result I just wrote?

Can anyone tell me how to syncronize the rows between the dataGrid and the DataSet after the user clicks on the column header and sorts the dataGrid? I can get it to sync when the user changes the row either by clicking on a new row or using the up/down arraows to change rows. But when the user clicks on the column header to sort the grid... the sorting seems to take place after the click event. So the dataSet is on a different row than...

Can anyone tell me how I might solve the following problem. I have a composite control that I am placing at the top of the page which contains Label and DropDownList controls. So if a DropDownList in the first instance is changed which might also change the text of a Label then the second...

I would like to find a way that when a rep from our company goes out to sell our service that...

Hey everyone, Let me give you a rundown on our setup. We're a small, small firm, so please take this setup with a grain of salt, with both of us knowing it's probably not the best setup ever (and I'm more than happy to hear suggestions). On our webserver we have a MySQL database that collects information on our clients (name, address, etc) when they fill out a form to sign up.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
