Locked Out but I have Workgroup File & Password

I have an Access 97 secured database which I designed myself. I have the
workgroup file and I have been both been trying to access it using a custom
shortcut--which I updated to reflect the current filepaths of both the
database and workgroup file--and I also tried just manually joining the
workgrup file and double-clicking the aplication. I was successful at
"joining" the workgroup file.

I keep getting 'You Don't Have the Necessary Permissions" before it even has
a chance to ask me for the password. I did restore these files from a CD but
I do remove the "read-only" attributes from them first.

Why is it doing this?

Again I know the password of the workgroup file and I am the flat-out
administrator. But I won't even let me get to the point of asking for the
user id & password.

Does your custom shortcut point to the file or the Access executable? It
needs to do the latter any time you try to use command line parameters.

"Path to MSAccess.exe" /wrkgrp "Path to mdw" "path to mdb"

Are you absolutely positive the shortcut is pointing to the correct mdw?
That's the only other thing I can think of. You can execute a command that
will tell you which workgroup file is being used once you are in the file,
but I don't know of a way to test the mdw being used when you are denied.

MsgBox(SysCmd(a cSysCmdGetWorkg roupFile))

Is there some way of using vba to automate the processe of joining an Access 97 security workgroup? I typed wrkgadm /? at a command prompt and it just opens the gui, so I'm not sure what the parameters are for the command or whether there really are any command line switches for it. Thank you in advance.

Hi All, I just tried to follow some advice on securing a database. It worked great. So, figuring I learned my lesson, I deleted the original test database file and went to lunch. Unfortunately, now every database on the entire machine is locked, and I am getting frantic. What must I do to get back to work? Thanks, Desperate Chuck

We have been having a recurring problem with our .NET applications on one of our application servers (it is not setup to be a domain controller). For some reason the local ASPNET account is getting locked out resulting in the following error message in the event log: "aspnet_wp.exe could not be launched because the username and/or password supplied in the processModel section of the config file are invalid." If we unlock the account,...

Hi everyone. I inherited a database that had a user name ("field") in the user group not admins. This seemed to be fine for woking with the database because it was owned by user "field" and all the tables and queries where owned by user "field". I did a compact database yesterday and now all the tables that are linked have an owner of "engine". And all the tables I created when signed in as "field" don't even show up. Like I said I...

I've just had a PC crash, and I need to reset all my Databases. Most of my databases just use the local workgroup file,. but a couple use a specific mdw file. If I 'join' this mdw, all my databases prompt me for a Username and password - which I do not want. What do I need to do?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
