tables and queries have an owner of "engine"

Hi everyone. I inherited a database that had a user name ("field") in
the user group not admins. This seemed to be fine for woking with the
database because it was owned by user "field" and all the tables and
queries where owned by user "field". I did a compact database
yesterday and now all the tables that are linked have an owner of
"engine". And all the tables I created when signed in as "field" don't
even show up.

Like I said I inherited the database and although it has a user called
"Administra tor" with admins permission no one knows the password. Is
there anything I can do. Desperate any help appreciated.

The compact has failed, due to some subtle corruption.
Go back to your backup copy of the database.

All of your new tables are gone. Gone forever. It is
extremely unlikely that even a professional database
repair company would be able to find anything. Unless
you have a backup copy, they are gone.

Thanks for your reply. I do have a copy from last Friday's backup of
the server. I lost a day of work but I guess I'm lucky, I could of had
the application on my C drive. It seems the computer I inherited has
the system.mdw screwed up. Everytime I create a access database it ask
for a password and the only user id I know the password to is the user
"field" which doesn't have admin privlages. Can I copy a system.mdw
from someone elses computer that hasn't been screwed with and use it?

Don't loose the system.mdw! It may be important later!
It may be that your application database requires it!

It may be that you are not using system.mdw on your
computer: the workgroup is set by the workgroup administrator
(check help and look at your tools menu).

Yes, you can copy mdw files from one computer to another:
it is actually a special database file, with a list of
user names in a table.
