Increment a number field

I converted to a DB2 database where the data type was changed from
autonumber to number field. I still need to increment the field by one
each time a new record is added. Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Our ISeries flavor of DB2 (UDB) supports an auto-incrementing feature for
numeric columns. Are you sure yours doesn't? Otherwise you can use a
BeforeInsert Trigger to find the highest existing value and increment by 1. I
use that in a few tables I created before the Auto-Increment feature was added.

You can also just use code in your front end to assign the value using a similar
method as the trigger.

Folks, I have a table of addresses and a seperate table with contact names - All addresses tie to one or more names - I would like to keep track of the number of names 'belonging' to an address and have thus included a column in my address table called num_of_contacts. Everytime I add a new contact, I would like to increment the num_of_contacts column in the address table. Is this possible?

HI, I have two tables which currently have Autonumber fields which are used to create a unique number to identify an invoice for each table. Instead of having two unique numbers I'm after only one. My thinking behind this is to Create a text file with a number in it.

Hi I have a table that has as its Primary Key the Auto-Increment Field: Equipment_Number. In M.S. Access is there any way to define a starting number for the field? OR another way in which I could save the same problem would be: I have a form frmAddNew_Equipment, once all the fields are filled in correctly and it has been verified that there is no double entry etc, and the 'SAVE' button is clicked (unbound form), another form, bound...

Hello Everyone I would be grateful if someone could help me with the automatic increment of a field on my subform called ‘Test_SrNo’. I am Using Microsoft Office 2000. The auto entry of the incremented number would help to reduce errors and make data entry simpler. The next record in the Test_SrNo field should not have any entry in it until the text insertion point enters the Test_SrNo field. Example: If the last test serial number...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
