Can I use MDB database in shareware type application? This is desktop app
(developed in VB) using Access Database through OLEDB... Do I have to have a
licence? (Is the licence needed only for clients, e.g. MS Access appliction) 5 2789
If you own a version of Visual Basic other than the Learning Edition, then
you have the necessary license to distribute a Jet database with your
application.

According to the redist.txt document in my C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual
Studio .NET folder, you can distribute the JetSetup.exe file. Note that,
like you, I own VB.Net, not VS.net

Do I have to? If user has .net framework installed, won't the application
work?

Is the Jet database engine automatically installed as part of the .NET
framework? I was not aware that it is.

I'm new to .Net. Specifically, I just started playing around with VB
..Net 2003.
I'm considering developing some shareware applications. Would you
consider .Net a suitable platform for this?
I know I can create my apps in VB.Net since I've already built some
prototypes, but the Framework issues concern me.
I understand you have to have the framework installed and that it can

I'm looking at the docs in VS2005 regarding starter kits and I noticed that
the starter kits to download from the site are in vsi files (compressed),
all except the shareware starter kit. MS docs says that templates should be
in compressed files. The Shareware starter kit is in msi file so when you
install it you get a solution that includes some other projects, but it does
not appear in the templates when you want to start a new project....

I am looking for a shareware program to document an app and I really do not
like the built-in documentation in Access.
FMS Total Access Analyzer looks great, but it's way too pricey. I have seen
things that pop up in Access and provide info on a form, but I'm looking for
something that writes to an Access table or to a spreadsheet.
I'd like to keep the cost to around $60-$80.
Any suggestions?

We have finished testing Oko. It now becomes shareware. You can download an
evaluation copy and/or purchase a registered copy on-line: www.ploko.net.
Oko is a development tool for building Windows applications. It uses an
object-oriented programming language and has a rich set of visual tools that
make application creation a relatively easy and intuitive task. Its
integrated development environment allows you to create a wide range of...

I recently jumped on the .NET bandwagon and have been playing around in
Visual Studio and reading a few books for about 2 weeks now. It occurs
to me that I've never seen a desktop application written in .NET, at
least none that ever required me to install the framework (I only
recently installed it with Visual Studio).
I know there are people that are developing shareware using .NET and I'm
curious as to how people are handling the...

Shareware & trialware needs to come in a small package so that customers on
dialup can access these products as well. In practice, limiting maximum
download size is highly desirable with the client base quartering every time
the download size is doubled.
Where package size is too big, it becomes more expensive to pay for trial
download bandwidth than what you recover in sales. For example, typical
conversions in the region of 1% see 2Gb...

I am getting ready to write a shareware app in .Net using C# (actually
convert a VB shareware). I currently use a third party dll for the
data management. It is called the Tsunami Record Manager. I know that
it will not work in C# so I am looking for a very light-weight
database system that will work well in C#. I really don't want to use
Access if I can help it and Sql Server Express is really overkill.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

If anyone replies who saw my other posts, now you know why my posts
look as if I'm using MS Access.
I'm trying to google information about MS Access and why MS Access
causes database locks within DB2. The Developers at my current job
discourage MS Access queries on the DB2 database. Here is what I
found so far:
Microsoft Access, however, is different. Access has its own object

Hi
Can anyone share their experiences regarding which approach (ShareWare vs
Evaluation-ware) works best to protect profits and keep customers pleased?
Having a ShareWare product that can be activated to a fully enabled
version of that product with a registration code has it's disadvantages
(given the numerous websites that post 'regcodes'), but ShareWare is also
a fast and efficient means in keeping a customer happy. Evaluation-ware,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
