Currently I am running an Access database on a windows WTS server,
running Microsoft Windows 2000 server 5.00.2195 Service Pack 3.
This database should be accessible for everybody in our network, so
for the time being, I have changed the permission for the .mdb file to
Everone -> Full control (I know this is not professional, but I'll
sort out the security issues later).
When this database is opened, and closed again, it is automatically
compacted, which is not a bad thing, since the database is fully
emptied and rebuild on a daily base, and since quite a few temporary
tables are used.
However, I have one major problem : if the database is compacted, then
the permissions on the .mdb file change.
The Full control is removed for everyone, and only the Administrators
/ SYSTEM, and the user who compacted the database still has access to
the database.
My questions :
1. How can I deactivate / Activate the automatic compacting of an
Access database when the user quits.
2. How can I prevent that permissions are removed, when compacting the
database (I already tried to deny the "change permissions + Take
ownership" permissions for "Everyone", without any success.
Any other idea's.

Hi Peter,
AIUI, "compact on close" is a menu item (I'm still on A97 so I'm not sure
where).
As for file permissions, when an mdb is compacted, all objects are imported
into a new mdb which is then given the name of the donor mdb, the donor is
then deleted, so it looks like the new mdb is inheriting the permissions
from it's parent folder. I think you'd have to change the permissions on
the parent folder to suit.

Sorry I did not mention this in my original message, but I already gave
"Full Control permissions" to Everyone on the parent directory as well,
and I checked the box :
"Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object".
No success however.

If you mean "Full Control (All) (All)" on the folder then I'm not sure, but
it's worth checking that the second set of brackets shows "All" as this
indicates permissions on the contents of the folder.

Ive got 3 forms, (a subform within a subform within a form) and when I
refresh the outermost form, Access closes and offers to send an error
report.
The forms worked fine a few weeks ago, but now they cause this error
in Access 2002 (Access 2000 is fine)
