Access 2000 and Windows ME (repost)

Hello,

This is a repost (see under the "dotted" line) from 2 days ago. Hope someone
could help.

Norton Antivirus 2003 is installed on this computer. Could it cause a
problem? Another interesting thing is when I open a email with the DB
attached (on the ME computer), the file is not "enabled" in the file list,
it's grey. First time I see this.

Any suggestion?

Yannick

Hello all,

I just created a simple Access 2000 DB which has only tables in it: no
query, no forms, ... It's a back-end in fact. I created it on
W98 and used it on NT4. I tried to transfert both the front and back-end
on Windows ME but it doesn't work.

When I try to open the front end it's asking me the DB password (never had
any). And when I try to open the back-end (tables only) it's telling that
maybe the DB is corrupted and it's asking me if I want to repair it. When I
answer Yes, the following message says that the DB format in not
recognized.

I'm telling you all this by memory (no precise error messages) because I
do not have access right now to this ME computer.

Another interesting point that could help you to help me it's when I
create a new DB using Access 2000 on the ME computer and try to open it on
W98 or NT4, it opens without any error message, just fine.

Anybody know what could be the problem? I suspect something is missing or
not up-to-date on my ME computer needed by Access but don't know what.

It sounds suspiciously as if the DB is corrupted. You'll find the best
collection of info and links on that subject that I know about at MVP Tony
Toews' site, http://www.granite.ab.ca/accsmstr.htm.

I've never, even on someone else's computer, used Win ME, but I've used both
Norton Internet Security 2003 and NIS 2004 on this Win 2000 Pro machine
without any problem.

MDBs are a prohibited file type, by default, in recent versions of Outlook
and Outlook Express. That could account for one of the symptoms you mention.
In Outlook 2002 / 2003, you can reset properties to eliminate this
prohibition; in earlier versions, you can ZIP the files, or just change the
extension, so that your files get through, then change the extension back.
But that is not the problem with the troubles you're having opening the
database.

Hello All, I recently had to reinstall windows 2000 professional due to a harddrive crash, I downloaded all the newest updates, now I find that session variables are not being kept from page to page as it had with older software. If any else had this problem with IIs 5.0, frontpage 2002 server extentions I would appreciate a tip. What I have found out so far is that the session variables used with asp 3.0 are going away in favor of...

(Repost, due to lack of submissions...) The Microsoft Access Product Group (the people who build Microsoft Access) want your help! One of the main things we're working on for the near future is a conversion tool to take Microsoft Access 97 databases (primarily, but also Microsoft Access 2000 or 2002/XP databases) up to Microsoft Office Access 2003. For us to do this, we need sample databases from *you*, our customers, to ensure a...

This is not a question, but I need a bit of advice. I need to create a software solution for users in various countries. Normally I would use Access 2000 and simply deliver the databases for use. Unfortunately some of the users will not have Access installed on their machines, and will not purchase it simply to use this software. In the (bad) old days of using Access97, I would have simply sent the databases together with the runtime...

Hi, If we want to compile an Access 2002 database and distribute it to others, will the compiled software run on any PC, like Windows 98, Windows 2000, etc. Also, you don't have to have Access 2002 in order to run it do you? Thanks!

Hi, Here is my situation. Can anyone provide insight? I have developed a database in Access 2002. I am planning to distribute it as a split MDE (front) / MDB (back) to be used by the Access runtime and also full-version. Some of the client workstations will have Access 2002 installed. Most of them will have the runtime installed. However, I can't find the Office 2002 Developer Edition anywhere! Nobody has

I've made a program sorting incomming mail in public folder. The function runs every minute by using the form.timer event. In Access XP it runs for weeks, no problem. Access 2003 runs the same code for 6 hours and stops. I've found the problem to be the Set MySession = CreateObject("MAPI.Session")

Is it possible to develop an Access app in Access 2003 that will run on Access 2000? Is it just a matter of selecting "Access 2000" from the Default File Format drop down list on the Advanced Tab of the Options dialog? I need to do some quick work for a client that runs Access 2000 and I've only been doing working on 2002/2003 projects since installing Access 2003 on my development workstation. Do I need to install Access 2000 on my...

I use the Access 2000 MSI Wizard from Sagekey and they don't know if the bug documented on page 32 of the Access 2000 Developer`s Handbook Volume 2: Enterprise Edition still affects the runtime. Apparently page locking is invoked when using the Access run-time record than record-level locking. This also affects Access 2000 but if you patch Access the bug is fixed. I really don't know about the runtime though. Does anyone know if...

Hello - This is my first posting to this group, so please bear with me. Also note, that while I'm intelligent, databases are not in my field of knowledge. I'm working with a small limousine company. They presently have about 4 networked computers, all running Windows XP (w/SP2) and Microsoft Office 2000 (specifically Access 2000) - and a plain jane p3 server also running Windows XP (w/sp2) with Office 2000 loaded onto it. These...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
