How to synchronise file system with access tables?

Hi all,

I have built different databases for managing data I keep for my digital
collections of mp3's, e-book's, divx movies and digital photographs.

Until now, all these solutions lack one important thing: I am not able to
built a synchronise mechanism between the content of the directories where
I keep my stuff and the access tables where I keep a lot of additional data
for these files.

It would be wonderful to have such a synchronise option that prompts me:

"There are 3 new files found in the e-book directory. Would you like to
append these as records in your database?"

or:

"There are 2 records in your database with missing files. Would you like to
delete these records from the database?"

Is there someone who already built such a thing and is willing to share
this with others? I am looking forward to any feedback.

Kind regards,

Koen

Hello NG, we have created a database for our schedules on the SQL server 2000. As we have many satellite stations, we created a merge publication. The aim of this merge publication is to provide the satellite stations with their "own" databases, in which they can alter their data and are able to synchronise with the main server thereafter. At the same time it is possible to enter data into the main server (in our main office). The...

Please help. I have two databases - one I'm designing that will be our in-house data mgmt system (db1) and another that is a federally-mandated system (db2). We must submit data from db2 but don't want to use this db for our data mgmt needs. Some of the fields in db1 are shared with db2 but the structure and field names are different. When I'm updating/creating records in db1 I want it to see if the record exists in db2 (shared ID number),...

Hi everyone Is there any way to compare tables and automatically update values. I import a list of products with associated cost prices and selling prices from an external database into a table called Products which is then linked to other tables as required. The problem is that the external database changes on a regular basis. If a product is added today, I can then import the new database into a temporary table called ProductsWork...

Hi All. I'm looking for any help or sample code that can show me how to make a file import wizard in ASP.NET (VB preferred) like the one that MS Access uses. I'm working on a web site where the user has the ability to upload a file (.txt or .csv). The data in the file may be comma delaminated, tab delaminated, fixed width etc (we don't know). What I'd like to create is something like MS Access uses to import an Excel file into the...

(FYI, using VB .NET 2003) Can someone help me with this... Here's the code that I've got - it assumes that the fileName passed in already exists: Public Sub GetInput(ByVal fileName As String) dsFileCopy = New...

I am using Access 2003. I want to synchronise sub forms via buttons shown on the main form. The main form provides information for each application that is received. The sub forms accessed via the buttons provides related information to each of the main forms. Everything works find except: The sub forms do not "link"/ synchronise with the main form. I type in information in to the sub form. I exit. Go back again and it has disappeared....

Hi At the moment I do not need to know the how-to's, just interested if what I am thinking of trying to do is likely to be possible. 1. Is it possible to write code that would enable an Access database to periodically connect through a secure office network to a remote server (SQL Server in another part of the country) and download (and or synchronize) selected table fields and records into a local MS Access table on a laptop? In...

Hi, I have a mdb file shared in the LAN. I want to write app that verifies if it's open. If the file is not open, then my app can open the file. if the file is used, then the app won't open it. I also want this app to have handle to this file, then when the user stops editting this file, he can close it using this app.

Background about me. I am a total beginner with access and have no knowledge of programing. The problem I am having in access is to be able to Synchronise a main form and a subform. The program is a model database. when i select a specific model and open a subform (there are a few) that sub form must be able to Synchronise with the information on the mainform. I do not want to scroll back and forth trying to match information.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
