Link to objects in an mdb with a non-"mdb" extension

Hello --

I am using Enterprise Architect, a UML modeling tool, which is built on a
pre-Access 2000 mdb. The database describing the model has the extension
".eap".

I want to build some queries, reports, etc., on this model and want to store
them in a separate mdb.

Is there a way to link to objects in an Access database that has a non-"mdb"
extension?

Thanks for any help.

Assuming there are tables that are not secured from other access, as they
might be, then make a copy of the .eap file, change the extension to .mdb,
link the tables of interest, then use the Linked Table Manager to relink to
the same tables in the original .eap. Discard the renamed .mdb.

The problem is that, although the tables can be in a file of any extension
if it is a valid Access database, the File | Get External Data dialog limits
the file extensions from which you can do the original Link.

Another, even easier, approach was suggested to me by Eric Fleischmann,
Microsoft:

Use the File | Get External Data | Link, choose Access Tables. When the file
selection dialog opens up with only "Access type" files, simply put *.* in
the File Name, enter, and it will show all the files in that folder.

So simple, and it's just the way Windows works.

I have an application that allows embedded storage of ANY chosen file in an OLE field. I have recently designed an application in Ms Access with the folllowing security: 1) Database is split into a front-end / backend with linked tables 2) All modules are password protected 3) Bypass shift code used to disable bypassing startup routines 4) Users enter database through login screen which checks login from an Access table. This table is imported; not linked in the front-end. 5) The menubar on the startup form has been set...

I was asked to provide a proposal. I provided a proposal on my application and the prospective client likes what I have but is wary of it having been developed in Access. I don't understand this concern since my front-end application will be linked to a SQL SERVER backend. But there seems to be this "conventional wisdom" among IT people that Access is a toy database. Okay, let's redefine that as "Jet" is a toy database (which I don't...

I have MS Access 2007 (My Database files are saved as .mdb extension). I have no problem to create Users and Groups, and grant them specific Permissions. What I don’t understand is why when I create Password, and Permissions to allow or restrict the access of users and Groups to the objects in a specific Database file, (Ex: for only Sales.mdb) it creates security password for all (*.mdb) files. Some DB files don’t need any type of security...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
