outlook

I am using outlook for office xp. Outlook will not accept an
attachment that has an .mdb extension due to the security risk. How
can I get it to accept it. The only way I can get the file is if
someone zips the file.

thanks

Zip it, it's not just a security risk but a waste of bandwidth to send
unzipped bloaty files such as MDBs. ~A lot of EMail servers limit their
users to 4MB.

Trevor's advice is very sensible for sending files, but since you can't
always control what other people send you, perhaps you could make a registry
key change on your own system to allow you to receive .mdb files. See the
following for details:
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/getexe.htm

This is one reason not to send .mdb files. If the file is small, and I am
sending it to someone who is unlikely to have (or be able to use) zip
software, then I simply rename the file in case either the mail server or
client blocks it. E.g.

MyData.mdb => MyData-mdb

They then re-name it when they get it. However, I have seen cases where
files with no extension have been allocated a .dat extension somewhere along
their travels.

There was a program I used to do this that also makes Outlook minimize
to the system tray as well (which is just another reg hack) but I can't
for the life of me remember the URL. I would have posted the link if I
did. Anyone remember that one? I just use the save settings wizard now
to get all those options across to a new PC.

Can anyone provide a small snippet in C# that pulls out the Contacts in Outlook XP. I've seen a couple of examples in C++ and VB in previous newsgroup posts, but either the originals didn't work or my conversion skills are weak. And if I have to use tlbimp.exe what is the right file to use. Thanks for the help. -- Fritz

I have an Outlook 2003 using Exchange Server 2003 Public Contacts Folder containing 20,000 Contacts. I am writing a VB .Net 2003 program that loops through all the contacts in a "for each oCt in oItems" loop. After about 250 contacts, the program gives an InvalidCastException Error on the for each loop. I notice that Outlook's memory keeps increasing (using the task manager) until it reaches around 20,000K. When I run the program a second...

Hi everyone. Having problems with a utility I am writing for work. The previous IT Director thoughtfully allowed 3 (2000, xp, 2003) versions of outlook to be installed rather than 1. Now I need the utility to work for all 3 versions. A previous post suggested creating objects to detect the version of outlook, which I tried with success. But, that's as far as I can get. No one out there shows how to go beyond version detection to...

I recently upgraded to Outlook 2007 B2TR and have found that I can no longer code against MAPI.DLL It's gone :( Using C#, I used to get the MAPI session, and from that I could change the out of office. No longer. Does anyone know how to do this using the new Microsoft.Office.Core and Microsoft.Office.Outlook DLL's that are supposed to be the new replacements? Here's what I had that worked until Outlook 2007 came around:

I probably read all possible articles on the discussion forums about how to send email programmatically from Outlook, so below is my code. Basically, it executes just fine without exceptions or errors, and it creates email item and the attachment that I can see in the Outbox. But that's about it - it is not being sent, and it also does not respond to user "Send All" button nor to "Send" button when I open this emai. On the other hand when I...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
