Hello,
I don't program full-time (anymore), but I do try and stay on-top of
the latest technologies and like most are always trying to upgrade my
skills and remain current (as much as is possible).
Most of my programming these days involves using PHP for creating
script files for automating tasks and procedures (locally), and also
for anything that might be needed by our divisional Intranet (not a
huge site by any stretch of the...

Hello,
I've been reading up on security in Java Applets and whilst I understand
the concept, I can't successfully get my applet to read a file on my local
machine.
I discovered from http://java.sun.com/sfaq/#read:
-----
Sun's appletviewer allows applets to read files that are named on the access
control list for reading. The access control list for reading is null by
default, in the JDK. You can allow applets to read directories or files...

I'm having a problem using different properties of the document object
in the example javascripts in my textbook with browsers that identify
themselves as using the Mozilla engine. One example of these
problems is using document.layers. I have Google'd for examples of how
to use the document object specifically with Mozilla, but I cannot
find anything that explains why my problems occur. Could anyone here
see through the included example...

Hi,
We have a component that we've used successfully under W2000 to create
virtual directories on an IIS 5.0 web server. We're in the process of
upgrading to W2003 and I'm now encountering an exception when trying to
create the IIS virtual directory.
The component is .net, v 1.14 and is using System.DirectoryServices. The
code that does the work is:

Now that I have a better grasp of the scope and capabilities of the C++
Standard Library, I understand that products such as Qt actually provide
much of the same functionality through their own libraries. I'm not sure
if that's a good thing or not. AFAIK, most of Qt is compatable with the
Standard Library. That is, QLT can interoperate with STL, and you can
convert back and forth between std::string and Qt::QString, etc.
Are there any...

I'm having problems with inconsistent floating point behavior

failed assertions for assertions that at first thought ought
to hold, but that's not important.)
At the end is a full program containing the above seemingly

Hey guys, I've been hitting a brick wall with a problem I've come accross
in developing an application.
Background:
The application uses one primary class that I'm trying to implement with
the singleton pattern in mind. The design pattern seems to be working
properly (complex and simple variations of it) Serialzation/Deserialzation
seems to work okay.
I run into a problem when I attempt to load the file back into the

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
