Basic ODBC Setup Question

It's a naive question, but hopefully that's what the forums are for !

I have data in a SQL Server 2000 database, with an Access 97 front
end. This works fine, but at present the OBDC connection string relies
on a correctly-configured LOCAL DSN.

Is there any way that I can set up a generic DSN on the SQL server
server that all users can access, without the need to setup OBDC
conections on all individual client PC's ? With about 150 PC's to be
set-up, this would make life far simpler and also be easier to
maintain.

Any help or guidance would be gratefully received.

Well, the File DSN comes to mind.
Alternatively you could write code to create a Local DSN at startup
time. You should be able to find resouces for this online.

You should not be running 150 PCs each with their own Access front end and
ODBC configuration. You should be running ONE copy of the Access front end
on Terminal Server with ONE ODBC configuration for SQL Server.

Hello All, I have been working on this for almost a week now and I haven't anything up my sleeves anymore that I could test in addition or change.... Since I am not sure, if this is a Windows 2003 Server or ADO or ODBC issue, I am posting this on all of the three newsgroups. That's the setup: Windows 2003 Server with IIS and ASP.NET actiavted Access 2002 mdb file (and yes, proper rights are set on TMP paths and path,

Hi everyone, Now I am using Visual Basic.net to write a program but having some headaches. The situation is as follows: I am using ODBC connection to connect one database( non-SQL server) , which has over 20 tables and each table has lot of fields. My aim is to setup a button, everytime when the button is clicked, the selected tables through the ODBC connection will be copied to a SQL server 2000 ( Both the data and table...

Here's my situation: I have an ODBC DSN setup for Timberline Data (An accounting package that uses pervasive.sql) on my sql box. I set up a linked server using the supplied timberline odbc driver. I have two sql instances setup, the default instance and a named instance. On the default instance, the linked server works great no matter who is logged in using it (all authentication is NT integrated). However on the named instance only...

I am trying to connect to a DB2 v7.2 database from Lotus 123 v9.8 on a Windows XP Pro machine. I have the Software Development Client installed on the XP machine and have run the Client Configuration Assistant and registered the SAMPLE and my TEST databases with the ODBC Administrator as System DSN data sources. Everything seems fine, but when I try to connect to "External Tables" through 123 my DB2 databases are not listed under available...

Hi All, I am currently trying to link in Access 97 to a table in a MSSQL 7 server. Initially the link is fine, however, when I close the access database and re-open it from the same network lacation on a different machine, it tells me that the ODBC connection to 'SQL Server Name' failed. How can I create the linked table permenant no matter what machine the networked database is opened on?

I now have another question; My app was written using odbc because of the need to install the program and use different databases depending on what the client has/owns. I now need to create an ODBC connection string during installation.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
