Hey folks -
Thanks to everyone who gave input to my concerns. Of course, we don't intend
to have the mysql port open to the world. We will have Apache/PHP connect on
a unix socket, or to another machine with a cross-cable on non-routeable
IPs.
But now I have another question. We are working on a web database to allow
our suppliers to log on and submit information that they would otherwise
fax, email, or phone to us. It would reduce...

Hello all,
Over the years as I design more database schemas the more I come up with
patterns in database design. The more patterns I recognize the more I
want to try to design some kind of generic design patterns that can be
used and shared amongst many sub-schemas.
For example, the grouping of entities. I may have the following tables:
employee, product and client. These tables have no direct relationship
with each other. But...

I am looking for a recommendation for an introductory database design book
which will enable me to design my first database. It should cover the basics
such as normalization and entity-relationship diagrams. If it is oriented
towards MySQL, so much the better.
Thank you

I'm designing a database because I have to do it for the preperation work
for my A-Level ICT exam.
The database is for a building company. It has to store information on
building projects (tblProject) and employees (tblPersonnel) then link them
together.

I am checking online shopping sites like amazon. Can anybody tell me,
is there any way to get Product database structure. i.e. database
design to store product category and corresponding attributes data.
For all product categories there are different attributes. So how to
design database accordingly and how to define attributes for the
product category?

Hi,
I have a question regarding best practices in database design. In a
relational database, is it wise/necessary to sometimes create tables
that are not related to other tables through a foreign Key
relationship or does this always indicate some sort of underlying
design flaw. Something that requires a re evaluation of the problem
domain?
The reason I ask is because in our application, the user can perform x

I've been given a spec that seems unwieldy to me. As I'm pretty new to DB
design, I would appreciated any input this spec.
The site has three types of users: ADMIN, RESELLERS, and CLIENTS. The
database will be storing ITEMS and COLLECTIONS (COLLECTIONS are lists of the
ITEMS).
First, ADMIN users are to be able to create a MASTER LIST of items.
Next, RESELLER users are to be able to maintain a list of ITEMS that

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
