listing every file on hard drive?

hello, i was wondering if there was a way for me to, list every file that exists on my hard drive and write it to a text file? i am a beginner to programming and was wondering if this was a possibility. thanks!

What language are you programming in?

im not programming in a specific language yet, just looking for a way to aquire the information through dos in windows xp and have it written to a text file. is this possible?

If using windows 95, 98, 2000, XP etc.
Go into Command Prompt
ensure that you go to prompt "C:/>" then type the following so that it looks as follows:

C:/>dir *.* /s >List.rtf

PRESS ENTER. Wait till complete then browse to C:\ via explorer and you should find an rtf file named List, open this in word or wordpad. You should have a complete lisiting.
